It’s the Dragon Boat Festival long weekend, and many Taiwanese who didn’t choose to spend their vacation abroad, opted for Liuqiu Island off the coast of Pingtung. According to local tourism operators, more than 14,000 overnight visitors had descended on the small island on the first day of the long weekend. Let’s hear from a local tour guide.

There are visitors who plan to spend two days on the island, as well as those that will spend three days. The later it got, the more people came. If you look at today’s room reservation rates, most places are fully booked, and the scooter rental situation is the same, there are no available scooters for rent.

It’s not that bad. There’s still a lot of people, but it’s about half of yesterday’s numbers.

The island continues to prove to be a popular vacation destination, but on the main island of Taiwan, the number of travelers who wanted to take a boat to Liuqiu dropped significantly on Sunday. While many people are vacationing abroad for the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, Liuqiu remains a hot spot for tourists.
