Local COVID case numbers continue to drop. The CECC reported 24,196 cases for Sunday. That’’s 3,512 cases fewer than that of last Sunday, or a drop of 12.7%. Sunday also saw 73 COVID-related deaths.

As for Taiwan’’s first case of community transmission involving the BA.5 subvariant, initial findings reveal that there hasn’’t been further transmission outside the patient’’s family. Both of the patient’’s parents have gotten a positive PCR test result. Authorities are still awaiting genetic sequencing results, saying that there’’s a good chance that the parents are infected with the BA.5 subvariant as well.
