With COVID easing, diners are gradually returning to restaurants. According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, revenues in the food and drink sector reached NT$61.9 billion in June. That’s a rise of 61.7% from last year and the biggest leap on record. The ministry says revenue in the sector will continue getting higher over the second half of the year.

Last year, the figure was lower due to the Level 3 COVID alert. But the previous year, in 2020, revenue stood at NT$63.8 billion. And before COVID, in 2019, the number was NT$68.6 billion. The figure still hasn’t reached pre-pandemic levels yet. We expect July revenue to fall somewhere between NT$63.2 billion and NT$64.4 billion.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs says the sector is set to continue recovering in the second half of the year, with a yearly growth of between 48.5% and 51.5% expected in July.
