Children hop on combat vehicles at Tianmu department store

In a surprise collaboration, the military and a department store teamed up to bring a one-of-a-kind experience to families in Taipei. The Guandu Area Command sent its combat vehicles right to the doorstep of a Tianmu department store. Parents and children were able to hop onboard and get a taste of battle. The event was designed to promote civil defense preparedness. Let’s hear from the military.

Our soldiers at the Guandu Area Command participated in this children’s carnival at the department store. Parents brought their children to the event to get closer to our military and gain a better understanding. This was the perfect opportunity to educate the public in “all-out national defense.”

This is quite special. I was surprised to see such an event here. It lets children better understand the equipment used by the military, to better appreciate the hard work of our armed forces.

If people have routine exposure to the military, they won’t think it’s as boring or uninteresting as some might imagine. As a matter of fact, soldiers are pretty fun to chat with.
Parents had high praise for the event, saying they’d never seen anything like it before. They said the military’s creative PR was bridging the gap between the public and the armed forces.

連假期間，台北的百貨業者突發奇想與國軍合作，找來關渡指揮部的官兵，把輕型戰術輪車，直接開到百貨公司前，吸引大批家長帶著小孩，上車體驗。軍方也強調，這是全民國防的最好機會。

“關指部的官兵在百貨公司共同參與兒童派對嘉年華的活動，家長帶著小朋友，一起親近國防，了解國軍之外，這個對於全民國防教育來講，是個最好的機會。”

“滿特別，我還滿意外會在這邊做這樣的活動，會讓小朋友更能了解有關於軍隊的一些裝備，或是國軍的辛苦。”

“平常有多接觸，不會讓大家覺得軍中像人家想像的那麼無聊無趣，其實他們也滿好聊天的。”
在場不少家長表示，沒有看過這樣的活動，他們認同軍方的宣傳方式，可以讓民眾更親近國軍。
