Police officer Luo Tzu wins huge medal haul at World Police and Fire Games

A Taiwanese police officer has triumphed at the World Police and Fire Games. Luo Tzu snagged four gold and two silver for Taiwan at the friendly biennial games. Beating off rivals from around the world, she thanked her coach and colleagues for helping her train for the event. She spoke to us about how it felt to have Taiwan’s flag with her on the podium, and to meet other professionals from all over the globe.

Luo Tzu was already winning rivals’ cheers with her pullups at the opening ceremony of the World Police and Fire Games. Once she got onto the track, the results of her rigorous training regimen were plain to see.

Contestants ran 1,600 meters, then shot at a target, and then did it all again twice. This event is a test of strength, speed and accuracy, and Luo took home the gold.

She crossed the finish line first in the 5-kilometer cross country race, to bag her second gold. In the end, she came first in seven track and field events.

Luo is an officer in the Fifth Police Brigade of the National Highway Police Bureau. Her final haul of medals was four gold and two silver, for which she thanked not just her training routine but also all her colleagues.

The National Police Agency hired a coach to train us in each event. So I guess the training was quite solid. I have to thank my officers and seniors in the police force for taking on my duties so that I can come and compete without any anxieties.

Luo says the games are a chance to meet other police officers from all over the world, and the events are a chance for citizen diplomacy. Most importantly, it’s a place where she can make Taiwan visible to the world.

I could put my own country’s national flag on my back and see it flutter in the breeze on the field or on the podium. I was so excited to meet other police and fire officers from other countries.

Luo’s proud to be part of the police. She hopes that she can return to the games in two years to add to her medal collection.

世界警消運動會國道警察駱慈"一人摘4金2銀"

國道警察第五大隊教官駱慈，日前參加在加拿大舉行的世界警消運動會，個人拿下四金二銀的優異成績，駱慈說從今年初開始積極備戰，不論是警政署還是他所屬的國道五隊，都給予全力支持，才能讓他可以有機會站上頒獎台時，而且可以披著國旗上台為國爭光，讓她是最開心的一件事。

世界警消運動會開幕典禮活動上，駱慈拉單槓獲得其他各國選手的激賞，而來到比賽場上，她更是展現平常嚴謹訓練的成果。

先跑1600公尺再射擊，這樣連續三次的循環，不僅體力、速度，還有精準性，最終駱慈順利拿下金牌。

越野跑五公里的比賽項目，駱慈第一個衝過終點線，再度為自己掛上一面金牌。田徑七項比賽中，也是拿下第一名成績。

在國道警察第五大隊擔任教官的駱慈，今年在世界警消運動會共拿下四金二銀，她說除了平時精實的訓練外，最感謝的就是各級長官。

“警政署那邊有聘請教練，就是帶我們做專項的訓練，所以應該說就訓練還滿扎實的，要謝謝我的長官們還有我的學長們，代理我的業務，然後讓我放心的去比賽”

駱慈說，可以透過比賽與世界各國警察交流，也能在競技中做好國民外交，更重要的是，讓世界看見台灣。

“可以披著自己國家的國旗，然後在就是操場或是在受獎台那邊飄揚，其實蠻雀躍的，因為可以跟不同國家的警察跟消防做交流”

駱慈說她以身為警察為傲，更發願兩年後的下一屆比賽，她要繼續努力，為台灣爭光。
