US politicians condemn China’s alteration of civilian flight path in Taiwan Strait

China has altered the path of a civilian flight route in the Taiwan Strait known as the M503. Beijing has called off an agreement it had signed with Taiwan in 2015, resulting in the route now being closer to the median line of the Taiwan Strait. An expert say Taiwan should respond rationally and let the international community condemn China’s actions. Let’s hear from an expert.

The change does indeed put some pressure on our air defenses, but our military has all the corresponding countermeasures in place. Most importantly, the change highlights China’s irresponsible attitude toward aviation safety. There should always be a buffer at the border of two different flight information regions. This matter with the M503 mainly impacts Taiwan’s flight safety and regional safety. If we respond rationally, we can use this incident to get the international community to condemn the CCP, and highlight China’s violation and disregard for international laws and conventions.
The U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate have issued statements condemning China’s actions. The Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Ben Cardin has said that it was no coincidence that China had taken action just weeks after Taiwan’s presidential election. He added that the move was another example of efforts to coerce Taipei, urged Beijing to reverse the decision. Meanwhile, House Foreign Relations Committee Chair Michael McCaul said the U.S. should join Taiwan in countering the CCP’s threats and unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.

2/1開始，中國民航局取消，2015年和台灣協議的M503航線"向西偏置"措施，壓縮我國的空防預警時間。專家認為國軍都有相對應的措施，但應該更理性應對這次事件，讓國際社會譴責中國。

“對我國的防控的確會造成部分的壓力，但是其實國軍都有相對應的措施。但是最重要的是，這凸顯出中國影響飛安的這種不負責任的態度。相鄰的兩個飛航情報區的航線，應該要保留一定的緩衝距離，這次的M503事件，主要就是影響到我國的飛安，還有區域的飛安。我們更理性的應對，就可以藉由M503事件，來讓國際間更加譴責中共，來凸顯中共這種違反國際法，跟國際規則的蠻橫的本質。”
對於中方的片面行為，美國聯邦參眾兩院都發聲明譴責。參議院外委會主席卡定表示，北京在台灣大選落幕不久後，做出這項決定並非巧合，不但危險也具挑釁意味，呼籲北京收回決議。眾議院外委會主席麥考爾則指出，中共持續對台威脅，單方面改變台海現況，必須與台灣一起對抗這種侵略。
