Shihmen Reservoir falls below 40% capacity, wharf suspends tourist boating

Over in Taoyuan, Shihmen Reservoir is at just 37% capacity, and it’s affecting the local tourist industry. Earlier this month, the reservoir’s Ginger Island closed its docks. The reservoir’s Amuping Wharf followed suit on Monday. Water authorities say the sharp drop in water levels is due to higher demand for irrigation during the spring planting season. This demand is expected to drop sharply starting from late March, they say. An incoming front is also expected to bring relief to the reservoir.

Starting March 20, that is, from the second half of March, agricultural water demand will drop from the current 1.4 million tons to just 400,000 tons. The Central Weather Administration also expects a wave of rainfall that will replenish the reservoir. We’ll enhance our efforts to direct water into the reservoir.
Water supplies are raising concerns elsewhere, too. At Hsinchu’s Baoshan and Second Baoshan reservoirs, supplies have dropped to 38% and 46%, respectively. Farther south, Zengwen Reservoir is at just over 50%. Despite looming shortages, officials say the upcoming rains will help sustain supplies until the plum rain season in May.

供水拉警報！桃園石門水庫蓄水率只剩37%，當地觀光遊艇業受到影響，繼撤離薑母島後，今天阿姆坪碼頭也宣布停駛，只能從西邊大壩碼頭上船。北水分署表示，主要因為農業春耕用水量大，不過，3月下旬起將大幅減少，預計未來鋒面報到將帶來降雨，挹注水庫。

中部日月潭水庫，儘管蓄水率還有7成，但水情也不樂觀，知名地景"九蛙疊像"全探出頭，其他像是寶山和寶山二，分別是38%、46%，南部曾文水庫只有53%。各地水庫水位持續下降，只期盼近期鋒面降雨緩衝，讓供水撐到5月梅雨季。
