Lai Ching-te talks AI with Taiwan’s top ICT players

President-elect Lai Ching-te is on a two-month tour of Taiwan’s industrial landscape. After meeting top players in the drone and chip industries, he arrived at Taoyuan on Tuesday for a meeting with ICT executives. According to participants, the meeting focused on artificial intelligence and how Taiwan can stay at the heart of the AI revolution.

The economy is the lifeblood of Taiwan’s survival and development. Many think that we only have a semiconductor industry. But actually, our ICT industry is even more robust. That’s why I have this important responsibility of coming here to meet you all and listen to your valuable suggestions.

Ahead of Inauguration Day on May 20, President-elect Lai Ching-te has embarked on a two-month industrial tour. Earlier on, he visited top players in the semiconductor and drone industries. On Tuesday, his focus was on artificial intelligence, as he met with representatives of about 30 ICT firms. The meeting came after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang declared Taiwan “the center of the AI revolution.”

Lai said he was committed to keeping Taiwan at the heart of the revolution. Sources say he pledged to improve Taiwan’s investment environment and help companies grow domestically. By providing the necessary utilities, land, labor and talent, he hopes to create a resilient and secure business environment, enabling Taiwan to progress despite turbulent world politics.

We insist on three things. The first is innovation. The second is deeper support for the digital transformation. The third is becoming a country where the “economic sun never sets,” by supporting our businesses’ global expansion. That is something that will move us into the future.

During his tenure as premier, Lai had encouraged Taiwan-headquartered businesses to bring manufacturing back to Taiwan. One company that responded was Quanta. After the meeting with ICT reps, Lai visited Quanta’s headquarters for a closed-door talk with company chair Barry Lam and briefings on the latest in AI and 5G.

準總統賴清德「信賴新政穩健接棒」產業交流之旅第三站，26日前往桃園華亞科技園區，與約30家ICT產業業者座談。與會者認為，賴清德以行動呼應輝達執行長黃仁勳提出「台灣是AI革命的中心」的見解，並為政府與民間合作提前布局產業戰略。賴清德也參訪廣達總部，與董事長林百里閉門會議。

“經濟是台灣生存發展的命脈，很多人以為我們只有半導體產業，那其實我們在場的ICT產業更是強勁，所以我有另外一個重要的責任，就是要來跟大家見面，聽取大家寶貴的建言。”

準總統賴清德520上任前展開兩個月的產業之旅，繼拜訪半導體及無人機產業後，第三站聚焦AI商機，和30家左右的ICT產業業者座談。日前輝達執行長黃仁勳剛喊出「台灣是AI革命的中心」，更引起關注。

賴清德以實際行動，呼應AI教父的期待，根據了解，他還承諾上任後將強化投資環境、立足台灣，為企業提供水電、土地、人力及人才，創造安全堅韌的環境，讓台灣在複雜國際政治中不斷前進。

在賴清德還是行政院長時，曾推動台商回流的決策，廣達大動作響應，也許正因這番淵源，座談會之後，賴清德參訪廣達總部，與董事長林百里閉門會談外，也實際了解AI、5G應用發展。
