Jia Li, Jasper win Red Bull break dance tournament

Taiwan has just hosted a qualifier for the Red Bull BC One, the biggest one-on-one break dancing competition in the world. The winner in the men’s category was 17-year-old Jasper, Taiwan’s youngest champion ever. In the women’s event, the winner was defending champion Jia Li. Both dancers will represent Taiwan at the world final in Brazil later this year.

After making his way to the final, 17-year-old Jasper shows off his moves to a roaring crowd. He defeated his rival to become the youngest champion in the event’s history.

Of course I had a lot of doubts. I kept thinking about whether I’d be able to pull it off. I’d like to thank everyone in my crew, and all the teachers who taught me. I’d like to also thank all the competitors here. I was lucky. It was all luck. It’s not necessarily that I’m that great.

Jasper started break dancing in the sixth grade. When he reached junior high, he chose homeschooling in order to focus on dance. His goal is to make it to the Olympics.

My experience is quite special. Ever since junior high, I have wanted to focus my efforts to break dancing. My family has supported me. They helped arrange for me to be homeschooled, so that I could train in dance. Of course I want to compete in the Olympics. It’s the foremost competition in sports.

Over in the B-girl event, the title went to last year’s winner Jia Li, who represented Taiwan at the Hangzhou Asian Games. She is currently ninth on the Olympics reserve list, and she stands ready to compete at any moment.

The important thing is to have the opportunity to compete in Shanghai and Budapest. I’m currently the ninth in line for qualification, so I’m keeping up with training to be able to compete if I get the chance.

Having won in their respective categories, Jasper and Jia Li will be representing Taiwan at the Red Bull BC One World Final in Brazil in December. There, the two will face off against top dancers from all over the world.

台灣賽史最年輕! 17歲高中生奪舞王寶座

霹靂舞將在今年首登巴黎奧運舞台，台灣也舉辦了一場被視為霹靂舞界「超級盃」的Red Bull BC One舞蹈賽，男子組由年僅17歲的吳定杰抱回冠軍，成為台灣賽史上最年輕的舞王。而在女子組方面，則由亞運國手楊加力衛冕連霸，接下來兩人將在年底前往巴西，代表台灣參加總決賽。

一路過關斬將闖進冠軍賽，年僅17歲的吳定杰在全場歡呼聲下，展現創意發揮精湛的舞技，最後也擊退對手，成為台灣史上最年輕的冠軍。

“當然心中有很多的掙扎，覺得說到底自己做不做得到，但是，當然謝謝所有的隊友，謝謝所有教過我的老師，也謝謝在場所有的選手，我很幸運，就是很幸運而已，也沒有說真的很強。”

吳定杰從國小六年級就開始喜歡霹靂舞，甚至在國中時就為了專心跳舞而申請自學，最終目標當然希望能夠前進奧運。

“我的經歷比較特別，從國中開始，就想要往(霹靂舞)這方面努力，所以我的家人也很支持我，幫我辦了自學，專心往這塊發展，到現在。當然會希望去參加奧運，那個是體育最高殿堂。”

而在女子組方面，去年冠軍、杭州亞運國手楊加力，在今年比賽中完成二連霸，再度奪下冠軍。目前在奧運資格賽取得遞補9的順位，楊加力也表示，隨時做好上場準備。

“主要是有機會可以到上海跟布達佩斯，因為目前是第九資格，所以主要還是在自己的訓練上，如果有機會的話，就可以上場這樣。”

奪下台灣戰冠軍，吳定杰和楊加力兩位舞王和舞后，也將年底代表台灣參加在巴西世界總決賽，與各國好手在擂台上PK，力拚奪下佳績。
