It’s time for fun in the sun as the summer season officially begins. But don’t underestimate the health impact of heat. Over the last three days, 77 people sought medical treatment for heat-related injuries such as heatstroke and heat exhaustion. Children in particular should take precautions both indoors and out.

Besides a rise in heat-related injuries among adults, there’s also been an increase among children. Engage with children and communicate with them more about this risk. Actually you might learn something about heat injury prevention, too.

Health Promotion Administration head
Children are less able to manage their own physiological needs and to protect themselves. If they show symptoms of heatstroke, it’s best to get them medical care immediately, to ensure their safety.
According to the Health Promotion Administration, it’s best to avoid outdoor activity between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Those who show signs of a heat-related injury should be moved to place that’s shaded and cool. Loosen their clothing, spray water for cooling, and offer them water to drink. They should be sent to a hospital or clinic for emergency care as quickly as possible.
