The first tropical that could potentially strike Taiwan this season is expected to form within the next 72 hours. According to national forecasts and U.S. models, the storm is expected to strengthen into a severe typhoon and make landfall in Taiwan via Yilan. Meanwhile, European models predict the storm will not strengthen past tropical storm levels, and will not make landfall in Taiwan. Let’s hear from the Central Weather Bureau.

Right now it seems that there is a high likelihood that it will approach the seas off the east coast of Taiwan. We don’t rule out the possibility that it will move up at this angle, or even approach more closely. There is a possibility that we will issue warnings next week.
Atmospheric instability will take over Taiwan’s skies starting next Monday and swells are expected in coastal areas. From Tuesday to Thursday, Taiwan will be under the influence of the storm’s periphery, with showers islandwide. Residents in the north coast should be especially careful. The storm’s approach coincides with the highest spring tide of the year, and could bring about flooding and powerful backflows.

今年侵台首颱最快72小時內就會生成,只不過各國預測路徑迥異,美國模式同樣認為是強颱,會從宜蘭登陸穿心,但歐洲模式則認為,92W會持續朝西北方前進,路徑東修一些。
