Flag bearers for Paris Paralympics unveiled: Liu Ya-ting and Chen Po-yen

The opening ceremony of the Paris Paralympics will take place in the early hours of Thursday, Taiwan time. The flag bearers for the Taiwanese team have been confirmed as Liu Ya-ting, a veteran javelin thrower and three-time Paralympian, and Chen Po-yen, a 17-year-old table tennis prodigy.

At the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Paralympics, Liu Ya-ting served as a flag bearer alongside long jumper Yang Chuan-hui. Three years later, at the Paris Paralympics, Liu Ya-ting has once again been honored with the role.

It’s an honor. I’m a bit excited. Yes, this is my second time serving as a flag bearer, and I must say, I’m quite nervous.

At the Paris Paralympics, Liu Ya-ting’s flag bearer partner is 17-year-old table tennis player Chen Po-yen, who is also the youngest member of the Taiwanese delegation.

He said “This time, it’s you and Ya-ting who will be the flag bearers.” I was told to keep it a secret.

The Taiwanese delegation arrived with the Paralympics just around the corner. The day after their arrival, went to the sports center rented by Taiwan’s Sports Administration to amp up their training.

Taekwondo athlete Hsiao Hsiang-wen is very satisfied with the training environment, since practicing at the athletes’ village venues could risk having opponents gather intelligence.

For example, during training yesterday, we were with athletes from many countries, including our own opponents. This makes it easy for them to gather intelligence. So, having an off-site training facility allows us to train in a more private and controlled environment, where we can work on our more secret techniques.

Previous Taiwanese Olympic athletes also trained at this sports center, which produced Olympic gold medalists for France. It gives confidence to Hsiao, Taiwan’s first taekwondo practitioner to compete in the Paralympics.

巴黎帕運即將開幕台灣隊掌旗官揭曉拚傳承

巴黎帕運將在台灣時間29號凌晨舉行開幕典禮，而台灣隊的掌旗官也已經確定，將由帕運三朝元老，女子標槍選手劉雅婷，和17歲桌球好手陳柏諺，共同擔任男女掌旗官，劉雅婷更是繼東京帕運後，連續第二屆掌旗，象徵世代傳承。

劉雅婷在東京帕運開幕典禮上，和跳遠好手楊川輝一起擔任掌旗官，3年後的巴黎帕運，劉雅婷再度榮膺重任。

“感覺是蠻榮幸的有點開心，對，然後這是第二次擔任掌旗官，是覺得蠻緊張的啦”

這次巴黎帕運，和劉雅婷搭檔的男掌旗官，是17歲的桌球選手陳柏諺，他也是台灣代表團年紀最小的一位。

巴黎帕運即將開幕，台灣代表團抵達之後第二天，就來到體育署租下的運動中心，加緊練習。

跆拳道好手蕭翔文，對這個環境相當滿意，因為在選手村的場館練習，有可能被對手蒐集情資。

“像昨天訓練的時候，跟很多國家的選手都在一起，那剛好又是自己的對手，那很容易就會被做到情蒐的部份，所以如果有場外的場地可以訓練的話，那我們比較可以封閉式訓練，然後也可以訓練到自己比較隱私的動作這樣子”

之前台灣奧運選手，就是在這個運動中心訓練，這裡也曾為法國培育出奧運金牌選手，有了氣場的加持，讓台灣首位參加帕運跆拳道的選手蕭翔文，更有信心。
