Kenting tourist numbers hit 41-year-low in 2024

Tourist numbers at the seaside resort town of Kenting have plummeted in recent years. The figure hit a 41-year low in 2024, as the town recorded just 2.14 million visitors, a decline of 480,000 from the previous year. The sharp decline has dealt a crippling blow to the local tourism industry. Already, three resorts have announced they’ll be shutting down in the first half of the year. Though some have said they are closing for renovations, other business owners in the area see a dark future ahead.
It’s a lovely day in Kenting, but the streets are deserted. Once a popular tourist destination, visitor numbers have been steadily dropping to a low of 2.14 million visitors in 2024, a 41-year low.

On weekdays, workers outnumber tourists in Kenting. And on weekends and holidays, it’s not busy enough to sustain a business. Three resorts: Hotelday+, Uni-Resort and Toong Mao have announced they will be shutting down in the first half of the year.

The hotel has been in operation for almost 30 years. Due to big changes in the market and different consumer needs, the hotel will suspend operations on Feb. 28, and we will make any necessary adjustments.

The company may reallocate workers to other locations, if we are willing to move. If not, then we’ll get laid off with severance pay.
The operator has not yet confirmed the plans. Other businesses in the area say the business landscape has not recovered to pre-pandemic levels. The sharp drop in visitors has dealt a significant blow to the local economy, and operators are calling on the government to promote travel to Kenting. If tourists don’t come back, they say, the wave of closures could become a tsunami.

昔日為國旅勝地的墾丁，近年來遊客人數雪崩式下跌，2024年僅有214萬多人到訪，創下除了疫情期間，41年來最低紀錄，就有三家飯店，傳出停業消息，雖然業者表示是為了整修，但是否還會繼續營運，仍是未知數。
墾丁好天氣，街道上卻空蕩蕩，昔日為國旅勝地的墾丁，近年來遊客人數直直落，2024年僅有214萬多人到訪，創下41年來最低紀錄。

平日墾丁，已出現業者比遊客還多的狀況，假日狀況也不夠熱絡，不少民宿只能餵蚊子。如今墾丁包含承億文旅、統一渡假村墾丁海洋體驗樂園，以及墾丁統茂高山青飯店，這三間飯店傳出，將在今年上半年結束營業。

雖然業者都沒有正面回應，但周邊業者都透露，現在的景氣比疫情前還要差，遊客銳減，地方經濟下滑，也期盼政府能推出帶來人潮的活動，若人潮無法回流，這波停業潮，恐怕只是個開始。
