Expert debunks ‘prophecy’ of disastrous earthquake on July 5

Could a great calamity strike this Saturday? Japan’s southern Tokara Islands have been seeing frequent earthquakes in recent days. That would not usually be a big deal, were it not for a prophecy made by Japanese manga artist, who claims to see the future. Ryo Tatsuki had a clairvoyant dream about “two large dragons” rising from the Pacific Ocean. According to a seismologist, the dream could refer to three extinct volcanic ridges at the bottom of the ocean. Will they really blow up? Let’s hear from the scientist.

From a bird’s eye view, there is a land formation that resembles a dragon in the middle of the Pacific. It’s a group of volcanoes that became extinct, so they’re very stable. It will take another 100 million years for these ridges to drift all the way to Tokyo Bay. They move really slowly, so people don’t need to panic about what may happen on July 5. These “dragons” can’t fly and travel all the way to the middle of the Philippine Sea Plate and cause a great eruption or earthquake.
The expert reassured the public that there’s no feasible way the “two dragons” in Tatsuki’s dream could possibly head to Japan. Instead, he said rather to keep an eye on activities along the Nankai Trough and along the Ryukyu Trench. Should a great earthquake ever arise from these places, it could create a tsunami that would quickly travel west and even hit Taiwan.

日本鹿耳島縣的吐噶喇群島，近日地震頻繁，加上日本漫畫家龍樹諒，曾預言7/5將發生大地震，右側太平洋海面還會有"兩條巨龍"現身。地震專家郭鎧紋指出，這兩條巨龍應該是三座海底死火山，從科學角度來看，並不會突然活過來。來聽聽他怎麼說。

“從太空的視野看下去的時候，其實你就會發現在那個中太平洋，有一條真的跟龍長得非常像的一個地形的構造，它是一群以前的那個…就是說，是火山，但是是已經離開熱點的死火山，所以它是很穩定的。(中太平洋山脈)大概一億年以後，會跑到東京灣的下面，因為它移動的速度很慢，大家不用擔心7月5號啦，它不會飛起來，飛到菲律賓海板塊的中央、發生大爆炸造成大地震。”
郭鎧紋要民眾不用太擔心雙龍奔日，反而提醒南海海槽與琉球海溝，如果未來發生大地震，等同兩條高速公路，將海嘯波引到台灣，必須嚴加防範。
