The summer heat is not yet fully gone, and winter is not even close, but already, cherry blossom trees are blooming in Yunlin. They are located in a farm in Gukeng, which has been taking care of the double-flowered cherry trees for more than 20 years, and this is the first time they bloom in September. Let’s take a look.

Admiring the cherry blossoms
Usually they bloom in late December, or from December to February. They’ve never bloomed so early. I was curious so I came to have a look.

It’s the first time, it’s really surprising. Maybe it’s because Typhoon Danas in July caused the trees to lose a lot of leaves. To survive, situations like that, plants can grow flowers quickly and bear fruit to ensure their continuation.
A few cherry blossoms have turned branches pink in Yunlin, but another photo making the rounds online seems to suggest a mass flowering event in Chiayi. The trees on a stretch of Provincial Highway 82 appear to be bursting with pink sakura, as if it were Japan. Netizens have been left wondering as to how that could be possible so early in the year. The answer is, that the cameras are actually malfunctioning, making the lush greenery appear pastel pink.
