Crash with ‘campus dog’ raises questions about compensation

2025-12-30

A scooter crash between a student and a “campus dog” has sparked a debate about who should be responsible when someone gets hurt. The incident happened at National Pingtung University of Science and technology, where a stray dog ran onto a road on campus and collided with a scooter, causing the rider to suffer abrasions on her arms and legs. Some say the dog is a “campus dog,” and that the university should take responsibility. But the university doesn’t agree. Let’s hear more.

Even if you avoid the crash, you can’t control where the dog will go next.

Some students feed it when they see it pass by. It should be controlled.

NPUST Student Affairs
Our university does not have any officially registered campus dogs. We always promote awareness and education, asking people to not feed animals on campus, including stray cats and dogs.

The university says that the dog is not its responsibility, stressing that it is illegal to feed or raise cats and dogs on campus. For the 18-year-old scooter rider, that leaves no clear way for her to seek compensation, or to cover the medical expenses.
