TSMC-NYCU semiconductor summer camp welcomes Ukrainian students as teachers

As the AI wave is here to stay, science education is taking root at a younger age. National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University is hosting a semiconductor summer camp, which this year welcomed students from Ukraine who communicated with the participants entirely in English. The curriculum also incorporates interactive devices designed in Taiwan, transforming difficult chipmaking principles into interactive activities that students can actually touch and play around with.

Holding an interactive device as she looks at the electrical current on the screen, a high schooler from Hsinchu uses English to explain the principles of voltage, current, and short circuits to the class. Her voice never wavers, showing remarkable stage presence.

Each summer, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and TSMC work together to organize the Be Light AI Semiconductor outreach program. This year, they also partnered with a Ukrainian K-12 education project to bring Ukrainian students on board. After first receiving training on semiconductors and AI, Ukrainian and NYCU students teamed up to guide students from Hsinchu Girls’ Senior High through experiments and coding.

Professor Wen, who designed the program, and Lora Ho, a former senior VP at TSMC, are both former students of Hsinchu Girls’ Senior High. They also hope to expose more students to AI early in their education.

First of all, Professor Wen is an alumna of our school—and a distinguished one at that. At the moment, high-school textbooks don’t have anything on semiconductors. Coming here to teach our students about semiconductors, and having Ukrainian students guide them, makes the topic into an opportunity for international exchange.

Taiwan is incorporating semiconductors into the curriculum ahead of schedule, giving students the chance to enter the industry on more solid footing.

暑假半導體營好國際化! 烏克蘭學生加入”全英文開講"

AI浪潮來襲,科學教育向下扎根,陽明交大在暑假推動精彩的半導體營,今年不只不只請來烏克蘭學生加入教學,學生可以用全英文交流。搭配MIT設計的AI互動裝置,讓原本艱深的晶片原理,變成看得到、玩得到的國際課程。

手拿互動裝置,盯著螢幕上的電子流動,新竹女中學生站上台,用全英文解釋電壓、電流和短路原理,台風穩健,一點也不怯場。

陽明交通大學攜手台積電推動BeLight AI半導體教育計畫,今年更結合烏克蘭K-12教育合作計畫,來自烏克蘭的學生先接受AI與半導體課程培訓,再和陽明交大學生一起化身講師,帶著新竹女中學生做實驗、寫程式。

主辦計畫的溫教授,和台積電前資深副總何麗梅,都是新竹女中校友,他們也鼓勵更多學生能提早接觸AI。
