China imposes sanctions on seven ‘diehard Taiwan separatists’

China on Tuesday imposed sanctions on seven Taiwanese politicians that it has added to its list of so-called “diehard Taiwan separatists.” They include Taiwan’s representative to Washington Hsiao Bi-khim, Legislative Deputy Speaker Tsai Chi-chang, DPP Deputy Secretary-General Lin Fei-fan and DPP lawmaker Wang Ting-yu. Several of the politicians affected have said they will wear the sanctions like a badge of honor. Let’s hear from them.

For me, it is a kind of recognition. It shows that our efforts for freedom, and human rights, and for Taiwan’s international space have been noticed by China. So as I see it, it is a badge of honor. I think their objective is very simple. They have seen just how Taiwan-U.S. relations have prospered over this time, so they are hoping to obstruct further developments.

If it is all because I met U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, then it is an honor to be sanctioned by China. It’s a badge I will wear with pride.

These sanctions are not a new stunt. It’s probably just a way for China to vent out its emotions. These sanctions basically declare that Taiwan is not part of China’s territory. They support the fact that it is an independent territory, an independent country.

The sanctions impose a travel ban on politicians and their families to China, Hong Kong and Macau. Their affiliated institutions will be restricted in their cooperation with organizations and individuals in China, and firms and investors related to them will be banned from engaging in profit-making activities in China.

中國今天公布第二波台獨頑固份子名單，駐美代表蕭美琴、立法院副院長蔡其昌、民進黨副秘書長林飛帆、民進黨立委王定宇等七人入列，不過，幾位上榜的人都說，被中國制裁是光榮的勳章。

“對我們自己個人而言，還是把它當成是一個肯定啦，也代表我們過去對自由民主人權的價值，甚至台灣國際空間的努力，也算是被中國看到了，所以對我自己個人而言，我把它當成是光榮的勳章。我認為他的目的很簡單，是因為他看到過去一段時間，台美關係的發展，他們都希望能夠予以阻撓。”

“如果是因為我接見了裴洛西議長，我認為被中國制裁是光榮，是我的驕傲也是我的勳章。”

“這樣的制裁，不是新花招新把戲，大概就是個發洩情緒的作法。你這種制裁剛好宣布，台灣不在中國的領土範圍內，你是支持台灣是一個獨立的領域、獨立的國家。”

中國對台獨份子的懲戒措施，包括禁止他們本人及家屬進入中港澳，限制他們的關聯機構與中國組織、個人合作，也不允許他們的關聯企業和金主在中國牟利。
