With Election Day just around the corner, health experts are weighing in on how to prepare to vote amid COVID. Among some of the more conservative views are those of former CDC deputy head Shih Wen-yi, who says people who aren’t boosted, who haven’t received a next-gen shot or who haven’t had COVID previously should not go to the polls. In response, NTU public health professor Chen Hsiu-hsi, says it should all be fine as long as people follow COVID guidelines, as elections are an orderly affair. Let’s hear what he said.

Voting is an orderly affair. You can wear a face mask, and maintain a social distance with others. That’s become the norm already. So you can just go vote as you would normally. That day will be the time for everyone to put on a display of civility. Wear a mask, and maintain a social distance. Try not to linger at the polling station after you cast your vote.

Look at the electoral materials first, and make up your mind about who you want to vote for. Then at the polls, cast your vote neat and tidily and be off fast.
Several doctors advise voters to not stay at polling stations for longer than necessary. They also remind the general public to follow COVID rules. They add that people in high-risk groups should pay special attention to their health.
