President Tsai honors model mothers who bequeath indigenous languages to their kids

President Tsai Ing-wen used the occasion of Mother’s Day today to honor mothers of indigenous peoples who have successfully passed down their native langue to their kids. Tsai said her government is endeavoring to create an indigenous language-friendly environment, so that more people can pick up and use Taiwan’s native languages. Premier Chen Chien-jen, who was supposed to accompany Tsai, decided not to attend at the last minute due to having tested positive for COVID.

On Mother’s Day, president Tsai came to the Grand Hotel to attend a commendation ceremony for model mothers of indigenous languages. Special awards were given to the indigenous mothers who had passed down their native language to the next generation.

These model mothers took up the mission of bequeathing indigenous languages to their children on top of working and doing household chores.

There were 52 model moms in attendance. Thanks to their hard work, their kids and even grandkids were able to successfully pick up their mother tongue. Tsai emphasized that the government has been endeavoring to create an indigenous language-friendly environment, so that more people will be able to pick up their mother tongue and that indigenous language can become part of their everyday lives.

The indigenous languages are the languages of the mothers of the indigenous peoples, and they are also an indispensable voice of Taiwan. Therefore, the government has invested resources to continue the revitalization of the indigenous languages.

One government official, Premier Chen Chien-jen, who was supposed to accompany the president at the event, was conspicuously absent. It turned out that he had been infected with COVID for the first time.

The Executive Yuan has stated that the premier began coughing on Saturday night, and a subsequent rapid test turned out positive. His doctor has recommended that he get rested at home for a couple days.

今天是母親節,總統蔡英文,特別出席,"族語模範母親表揚典禮",獎勵將族語傳承給下一代的母親。蔡英文強調,政府要營造族語使用環境,讓更多人有能力學習族語,讓族語回到生活中。不過,原本要出席活動的行政院長陳建仁,卻因為確診,臨時缺席。

母親節這天,總統蔡英文來到圓山大飯店,出席族語模範母親表揚典禮,特別獎勵,把族語傳傳給下一代的原住民媽媽們。

現場總共來了52位原住民模範媽媽,在他們的努力之下,成功讓兒女甚至孫子輩,學習母語。蔡英文更強調,近年來,政府營造族語使用環境,就是要讓更多人有能力學習族語,讓族語回到生活中。

原本也要出席活動的行政院長陳建仁,卻因為首次確診,臨時缺席,無法跟蔡英文同台。

行政院表示,陳建仁周六晚上因為出現咳嗽症狀,快篩後呈現陽性,經醫師考量陳院長狀況後,建議先在家休息二天。
