Classified Hsiung Feng IIE missile reportedly launched in Pingtung

Taiwan has completed three days of missile tests and verifications at the Jiupeng base in Pingtung. Late Wednesday evening, the military launched a missile with a two-stage ignition process. The missile is believed to be the classified Hsiung Feng IIE.

This missile was in the air for more than an hour. Standard cruise missiles travel at a speed between 900 and 1,000 kilometers an hour. So it’s reasonable to estimate the missile’s range as 1,000 to 1,600 kilometers. This would cover the enemy’s eastern, central and southern theater of operations, that is to say both first- and second-line enemy bases, including airports, command centers, relevant ports and troop assembly points. The U.S.’ Tomahawk cruise missiles use military-grade GPS and terrain contour matching to hug the ground during flight. Taiwan’s Hsiung Feng missile series and its Hsiung Feng IIE also use GPS for mid-course guidance. But it integrates GPS data in more languages, including data from European positioning satellites, to improve its anti-jamming capabilities.
The Hsiung Feng IIE is said to be similar in function as the U.S.’ Tomahawk cruise missile. On Thursday morning, the military launched four missiles in quick succession, including the Tien Kung II and Tien Kung III. All four successfully hit their targets.

軍方15日起一連三天在中科院九鵬基地，進行多種飛彈實彈操演及驗證，昨天凌晨一枚採取兩段式點火方式的飛彈，引起討論，傳出是雄二E地對地巡弋飛彈。

“這枚飛彈留空時間在1個多小時左右，一般巡弋飛彈航速，大概每小時900到1000公里之間 ，所以可以合理推估它射程，應該在1000到1600公里左右，可以涵蓋敵方東部戰區，中部戰區，跟南部戰區一線跟二線軍事基地，包括機場，指揮中心，以及相關港口、部隊集結點。美國戰斧巡弋飛彈採用軍規GPS定位，地射型的匹配圖型解讀能力，來追隨地型進行地貌飛行，台灣雄昇系列飛彈跟雄風二攻陸飛彈，也是採用GPS導航做中途導引，但是融入更多語言GPS來源，包括歐洲定位衛星，如此可以提高它的抗干擾能力”
雄二E地對地巡弋飛彈，是以雄二反艦飛彈為基準，並參考美國戰斧飛彈進行改良。週四清晨，軍方則是接連發射了包括天弓二型、及天弓三型，共四枚的飛彈，全都成功打擊目標，展現台灣源頭打擊能力。
