Street art: Taoyuan electricity facilities painted to look like vending machines

Local community leaders in Taoyuan have created some of Taiwan’s most unique streetside electric facilities. The electricity boxes in question have been painted to look like vending machines and retro streetside amenities. They’re so lifelike that some passersby might be confused about why the vending machine doesn’t vend. But the project is making a virtue out of necessity. It was inspired by the need to prevent the opportunistic pasting of unsightly adverts on the boxes.
You’re walking on the street and come across a vending machine. You’d like to buy a refreshing drink, but hang on – there’s no way to get a coin in the slot!
If you look at the bottom of the machine, you’re surprised to see a mobile network company’s name. Then it dawns on you – this supposed vending machine is actually an electricity facility.

I think it’s great and very creative. When you walk down the street, you think “This place is so colorful!” It feels like it’s brought in more life.
A vending machine, coffee machine, and even a popcorn machine. These colorful electric transformation boxes are stationed on a street corner in Taoyuan’s Zhongli District. They’re so convincing, many locals tried to buy an item at first, but the function of the boxes is not just to brighten up the street.

The box here was often covered in adverts. The borough chief said, “Why don’t we paint it in bright colors?” So on the one hand it’s preventing people from pasting adverts onto the box, and on the other hand it can add to the community. Looking at it, you’re not going to say the box has had a negative impact on the appearance of the community.
The creative artistic move is a way to prevent unwanted ads, while creating a virtue out of necessity. Local residents may have fallen for the joke, but they’re definitely having the last laugh.

桃園一處路口的變電箱，為了防止他人亂貼廣告，當地里長發揮創意，將變電箱的外型彩繪成「飲料販賣機」還有咖啡機以及爆米花機，因為設計得太過逼真，讓不少路過民眾誤以為真，想要投幣買飲料。美化變電箱，因為太逼真意外成為大家討論話題。
經過街角，看到販賣機，想要來一杯解渴的飲料，但想要投幣，卻怎麼也投不進去!?
往販賣機下方一看，竟然寫著電信名稱，原來這個神似販賣機的機台，竟然是一台變電箱。

“我覺得非常好啊，而且非常有創意，然後走在路上你都會覺得說，啊這個地方又非常繽紛，又感覺更有活力了”
販賣機、咖啡機、甚至還有爆米花機。彩繪變電箱就在桃園中壢區的一處路口，逼真程度讓不少民眾常常想要投幣，不過彩繪變電的功用可不是為了好看而已。

“因為我們這個變電箱，經常會有貼廣告，外界來貼廣告，然後里長說，那我們不如給它彩繪一下，就是一方面就防止人家貼廣告，然後也可以更增加我們這個社區，從外觀看起來，不會說因為這個電箱，而影響到整個環境的外觀”
不只能夠防止他人亂貼廣告，還能美化社區，一舉兩得的創意，騙到不少民眾，也獲得許多讚賞。
