UMC founder to organize seminars on China’s Anti-Secession Law

China’s Anti-Secession Law is turning 19 years old this year. The law legally allows Beijing to resort to forceful means to oppose Taiwan independence, in the case that peaceful unification is deemed impossible. In a recent interview, United Microelectronics founder Robert Tsao said that, almost two decades from its passing, the law was still being used by Beijing to intimidate Taiwan. He announced that he would organize a series of seminars on the matter with international think tanks in the U.S., Japan and the EU. Let’s hear from Tsao.

The Anti-Secession Law is packed with deception. It doesn’t mention the R.O.C. or the PRC at all. It just says China and Taiwan. The R.O.C. and the PRC are two countries and neither is subordinate to one another. But even so, “China” is used as a term to cover both. That is all likes. After the Pacific War between Japan and the U.S., Japan relinquished Taiwan, but no treaty was drawn to specify that Taiwan should be handed over to China. The CCP shouldn’t try to justify itself with the Potsdam Declaration. The declaration has nothing to do with them, because the PRC didn’t even exist back then.
Tsao says that the law received little pushback from the international community due to China’s economic rise back in the day. But he says that now that countries around the world are decoupling from China, Taiwan should assert its stance more firmly. The first seminar will take place in Washington, D.C. in May, with a second one to be held in Taiwan in June. Tsao hopes the events will motivate the international community and the people of Taiwan to stand up against China’s authoritarianism.

中國頒布的"反分裂國家法"已經邁入第19周年，聯電榮譽董事長曹興誠指出這個法律充滿話術，仍是藉此對台灣文攻武嚇。他宣布將和美國、日本、歐盟在內的國際智庫合作辦研討會，駁斥這毫無邏輯、意圖併吞台灣的法律。

“反分裂國家法裡面，騙術很多，他不提中華民國，也不提中華人民共和國，只用中國和台灣。中華民國跟中華人民共和國，是2個互不隸屬的國家，突然端出中國，把2個包含進去，這個就是詐騙。日本跟美國經過太平洋戰爭以後，日本等於把台灣吐出來，之後並沒有任何條約，說台灣劃給中國。你中共不要扯波茨坦宣言，跟你沒關係，因為那時你根本還沒成立”
曹興誠認為，過去中國仗著經濟崛起，他們提出反分裂國家法時，國際社會不敢反對，如今主要國家在經濟上紛紛與中國脫鉤，台灣更該硬起來。曹興誠預告，第一場研討會將在5月辦在美國華府，6月則辦在台灣，要喚起國際社會跟台灣人，對抗中國威權侵略的觀念。
