KMT lawmakers raise motion to freeze power price hike

KMT lawmakers have proposed a freeze on electricity prices. The proposal calls on the Cabinet to halt a price hike of 3% to 25%, which is set to take effect on April 1. In a separate motion, the KMT demanded that all future price increases receive legislative approval.

Pegatron Chair Tung Tzu-hsien has called on companies to take the price hike in stride, as it would support the country’s long-term sustainability. According to the Energy Administration, industrial users are the single largest consumer of electricity, accounting for 56% of the total. Household use accounts for 18%, and the service sector accounts for 17%.
