A total of 31 people have now been confirmed poisoned, two of whom have died and five are still in intensive care. That’s the update given by the health ministry on Sunday in the wake of a cluster of food poisonings at a location of Polam Kopitiam restaurant in Taipei’s Xinyi District. The good news is one of those five patients has started to show signs of recovery.

Taipei’s Far Eastern Department Store in Xinyi District, where the restaurant is located, along with the operators of the department store’s food court have begun issuing refunds for the period from March 17 to 25. That’s when the poisonings are believed to have taken place. The restaurant had a total of 91 transactions during the nine-day period, with a sales total of roughly NT$38,000. The department store said it would deduct that amount from the restaurant’s March revenue.
