US House plans to vote on military aid for Taiwan, Israel, and Ukraine

After weeks of delay, the U.S. House plans to vote on foreign military aid for Taiwan, Israel, and Ukraine. The Senate passed a US$95 billion package for the three nations in February, but the legislation has languished in the House. In a bid to break the deadlock, House Speaker Mike Johnson plans to separate the package into three bills: one for Israel, one for Ukraine, and a third for Taiwan. A vote is scheduled for Saturday evening.
The Biden administration’s US$95 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan was passed by the Senate, but has been blockaded in the House for weeks. But Speaker Mike Johnson has announced that the package will be split into three bills, with a vote scheduled for Saturday night. U.S. President Joe Biden voiced his support. In a Wall Street Journal op-ed, he urged lawmakers to approve the aid before the end of the week.

At least two members of Johnson’s own Republican Party have demand his ouster. As the GOP leads the House by just five votes, the bill’s passage will rely on Democratic votes.

I’m operating with the smallest margin in U.S. history. The only way to get a rule on the floor is that it requires a couple of Democrats.
Three individual aid bills will be put forward, along with a fourth bill that bans TikTok if its owner ByteDance doesn’t sell its stake. After the vote, the House will send the four-bill bundle to the Senate for a vote. The bundle will not include a fifth bill on U.S.-Mexico border security, which was introduced to satisfy hard-line Republicans. It remains to be seen if Johnson can push the package through, or if he’ll lose his speakership in the coming days.

美國援助烏克蘭、以色列和台灣的950億美元軍援案，2月出了參議院後就卡在眾議院，現在眾院議長強生提出把三案拆開，法案文本已在17號公布，內容與參院版類似，接下來要給議員72小時審查，強生也宣布當地時間週六晚間表決，但已有強硬派共和黨人揚言罷免強生。
美國拜登政府提出的950億美元對外軍援法案，對象包括烏克蘭、以色列和台灣，參院通過後遭眾院共和黨杯葛，卡關到現在。共和黨籍眾院議長強生最新宣布，把三案分拆，預計當地時間20號晚間表決。美國總統拜登隨即表達支持，還投書華爾街日報，呼籲眾院儘速在本週通過。

然而強生的決定卻引發同黨強硬派不滿。

已經有至少兩名議員放話罷免；強生則解釋，共和黨只領先5票，既然同黨有人不挺，自然需要民主黨才能讓法案過關。

強生除了把軍援案拆開，還加碼第四案、封殺海外版抖音TikTok。預料表決後眾院仍會將法案包裹再送回參院，至於共和黨保守派在意的邊界安全法案，強生則另外提案表決，不會含在包裹法案裡。究竟民主黨會不會賣面子讓軍援案過關？還是強生會丟掉議長大位？再過幾天就會揭曉。
