TSMC’s annual shareholders’ meeting took place on Tuesday morning. It was an especially significant occasion, as it was the last meeting with Mark Liu as company chair before his retirement. Shareholders posed him a host of questions, and also asked him to share some of his wisdom with the world.
TSMC Chair Mark Liu arrives to rapturous applause from shareholders. After taking over from Morris Chang in 2018, Liu is now set to retire, making Tuesday’s annual shareholders’ meeting his last as company chair.

I would like to extend every shareholder my gratitude for your unwavering support of TSMC this year. Thanks to you, TSMC’s stock price has grown so much. Today, we can take a moment to relax.
Liu appeared calm at his last shareholders’ meeting, opening up the floor to questions and accepting them all. Some shareholders asked him to share some of his wisdom with the world.
Liu replied that the wisest thing to do was to buy TSMC stocks, eliciting laughter and applause from participants. Another question was about TSMC’s relations with its clients. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has long had a close relationship with TSMC founder Morris Chang. And Advanced Micro Devices CEO Lisa Su has said that TSMC is her company’s most important partner. So which of the two is closest to TSMC?

Both of these firms have an extremely good relationship with us. We hope to all grow together.
Some shareholders asked about whether the U.S. presidential election could have an impact on TSMC’s expansion in the country.

The U.S. elections carry a high number of uncertainties, but that’s just how the U.S. democracy works. All we can do is to continue working together with the U.S. government whatever the outcome may be. The push for chip autonomy is a bipartisan issue so we aren’t expecting any changes on this front.
Liu was also asked about TSMC’s position on industry concerns such as the supply of water and electricity in Taiwan.

The issue is about how to handle the fact that TSMC’s power consumption accounts for 8% of the country’s power consumption. By 2030, the share is expected to be between 10% and 12%. At the same time, our contributions to Taiwan’s economy are increasing.
After the shareholders’ meeting, Liu retired from his position officially, ushering in a new era for the company under C.C. Wei’s leadership.

一年一度的台積電股東會今天上午盛大登場，其中最大的焦點就是董事長劉德音在股東大會後，正式退休，這也是他從2018年台積電創辦人張忠謀手中接棒後，最後一次主持股東會，有股東說，請他給出一段智慧的話，劉德音幽默說，「買台積股票」，也讓現場笑翻。

對於最後一場主持會議，劉德音格外輕鬆，面對股東任何問題，來者不拒，甚至還有股東央求他，給一段有智慧，世界需要的話。
劉德音幽默回答買台積電股票，讓現場股東拍手叫好，而外界關心，NVIDIA執行長黃仁勳和台積電創辦人張忠謀關係密切，AMD總裁蘇姿丰也說台積電是重要夥伴，台積電和誰關係最好。

有股東也關心，美國大選會不會影響建廠進度？

“美國大選不確定性因素高，不過這是美國民主制度運作，我們只能跟隨美國大選結果，繼續跟美國政府合作，但是美國對於晶片自主推動，是兩黨共識，所以我們不覺得會有任何變化”
對於產業界最關心的台灣能不能穩定供電還有供水議題，台積電要如何因應，也引發關注。

“需要台灣政府怎樣一一克服，我們用電是一天是8%左右，全台灣，到了2030年大概接近10-12%，但我們對台灣經濟貢獻度基本上同步在增加”
股東大會後，劉德音正式退休，揮手道別，台積電邁入魏哲家的全新時代。
