Aerial yoga involves using a fabric hammock to perform poses in the air. It’s all the rage these days, but it has its share of safety risks. One instructor says students have given themselves concussions and other injuries. She says it’s important to always work out under professional supervision.

In aerial yoga, long hanging cloth is used to support the body during poses. It all looks quite effortless, but it’s anything but easy.

One risky move is the shoulder stand. It requires the correct application of force and strong core muscles.

This fabric is actually quite soft. If you don’t have adequate muscle strength and endurance, you can easily get hurt.

Another dangerous move is the archer pose. Beginners should steer clear, because the fabric can easily get twisted.

During aerial yoga, if you accidentally get tangled in the fabric, the most important thing is to engage your core muscles. Stay calm, slowly relax, and then try to loosen the fabric.

So it’s best to have someone at your side. In an emergency, the first thing is to take a deep breath. If there’s someone nearby, have the person stop the fabric from swinging.

Struggling to get free can make matters worse, so it’s best to ask for help. The instructor says that one time, a student tried to flip in the air but crashed into a mirror.

The student ended up with a mild concussion. In another incident, a suspension ring snapped off. Although nobody was working out at the time, it later caused a trip and fall accident. The instructor says that aerial yoga is specialized exercise that comes with a degree of risk. During workouts, it’s important to use proper form, and to always have an instructor nearby.

空中瑜伽可以雕塑身形,又能訓練四肢協調,近年來學習的人相當多,不過空中瑜伽屬於專業運動,有危險性,過去也曾傳出意外,因此練習時,一定要有老師陪伴,才能避免意外發生。

練習空中瑜伽,會用垂吊的布纏繞身體,乍看輕鬆的動作,其實大有難度。

比較容易發生危險的,像是這個肩倒立動作,要找到正確施力點,當然最重要是核心肌肉。

“這一塊布其實是軟的,那是軟的,如果自己,肌力、肌耐力不足的時候,其實是很容易造成受傷的。”

還有這一個弓箭手姿勢,也容易發生布條纏繞,通常老師都不建議新手來做。

“在空中瑜伽的時候,如果不小心把自己給纏住,最重要是利用核心肌肉,先冷靜,慢慢放鬆,再把布條解開。”

“所以最好是旁邊真的要有人,如果緊急時段,第一件事情,要先自己深呼吸,旁邊有人的話,就請他幫我們把這塊布讓它停止下來。”

越掙脫布條可能纏越緊,最好還是找人幫忙,過去就發生,學員要空中翻轉,沒想到撞上前方鏡子。

事後這一名學員有輕微腦震盪。也發生過社區的空瑜教室,吊環斷裂,害住戶慘摔受傷。空中瑜伽屬於專業運動,具有一定危險性,練習時,更要注意本身的肌力和平衡,最重要一定要有老師陪伴,才安全。
