
The CSBC has begun work on a project to build six state-of-the-art fishery patrol vessels. The ships will be able to operate in faraway areas of the Pacific Ocean, to crack down on illegal fishing and other illegal activities. They are larger than previous models, and have the latest equipment to help out in emergencies. Ocean Affairs Council Minister Kuan Bi-ling says their range will cover practically all of the areas where Taiwan fishers operate.

When Mr. Huang was in the evaluation committee for this project, he said this was the best plan possible. Now, as the head of the CSBC Corporation, the plans he envisioned are becoming reality and going head without a hitch.
The Coast Guard Administration has four patrol vessels of this kind in operation. One of them is a first-generation model built more than 30 years ago. The remaining three are second-generation models, and have been in service for 11 to 13 years each.
The government is investing NT$12.9 billion to build six new third-generation fishery patrol vessels. They’ll have a length of more than 100m and width of 14.95m, and will be able to reach speeds above 18 knots.
They’ll be equipped with ship systems developed by the Chungshan Institute of Science and Technology, including 20 remote-control turrets, fire control systems and optoelectronic directors. To better assist in rescue missions the vessels will come in two versions: marine reconnaissance and transport supply.

Their capacity has been increased to accommodate 53 beds. They also have quarantine wards. Expandable modules on the deck allow for the placement of two 20ft containers to transport relief supplies and resources to the destination.
The new generation of ships will be able to navigate between the 55th parallel north and the 55th parallel south. That covers the Western, Northern and Southern Pacific Ocean, which is where most of Taiwan’s offshore fishing operations take place. Their main mission will be to crack down on illegal fishing and other illegal activities.
The six fishery patrol vessels were the last project for domestic shipbuilding approved under the Tsai administration. The CSBC Corporation aims to hand over one vessel per year to deliver all six by 2031.

海巡署與台船公司上午舉辦「首艘高緯度遠洋巡護船開工典禮」,海洋委員會主委管碧玲主持,正式宣告我國第三代遠洋巡護船建造的新里程碑。管碧玲表示,新式的遠洋巡護艦可航行至南北緯各55度的區域,等於是涵蓋了我國漁業的捕撈區,同時艦上配有醫療艙間,還能發揮緊急救援功能,肩負捍衛主權,維護漁權的重責大任。
海洋委員會主委管碧玲和台船董事長黃正弘共同切割下巡護十號建造的第一塊鋼板,象徵我國第三代遠洋巡護船建造邁向新頁。

現役海巡署遠洋巡護船共4艘,其中1艘第一代船,船齡已超過30年,其他為二代船,船齡在11到13年之間。
第三代船斥資逾129億,打造六艘新式的遠洋巡護艦,長度超過100公尺、最大船寬14.95公尺,最大船速18節以上,配置中科院研製20機砲遙控砲塔、射控系統、光電指揮儀,分為海上偵蒐型與運輸補給型2種船型,增加救援功能。

新式巡護船,可在南緯、北緯0度至55度內航行,涵蓋中西太平洋、北太平洋和南太平洋,幾乎是台灣所有遠洋漁船作業的區域,主要任務為查察有無涉及非法的漁撈行為或其他不法情事。
海巡6艘高緯度遠洋巡護艦是前總統蔡英文任內國艦國造最後一案,在政治上有不同的含義,台船全力以赴,預定一年交一艘船,在2031年全數交船完畢。
