Taiwan’s declining birth rate sparks online discussion

Taiwan’s birth rate is continuing to decline. For three consecutive years now, there have been more deaths than births in the population, and the low birth rate is leading to a labor shortage. Some netizens have posted data on the global birthrate ranking, and Taiwan continues to be near the bottom of the list, sparking heated discussion.
Some people think Taiwanese are being forced to choose between buying a house and having children. Others mention that the more developed a country is, its birth rate will naturally slow down. According to data from the CIA comparing crude birth rates across the world, the top three highest crude birth rates are all found in African countries, while Asian countries, such as Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and Singapore, are found somewhere near the bottom of the list.
