
Halloween is coming up, and kids are getting ready to put on costumes to go trick-or-treating. The Food and Drug Administration, however, is reminding parents to check that candy labels are up to standard before giving out the sweet treats or letting their kids eat them.
Parents are on a mission: buying candies and cookies for a Halloween party.
It’s important to check that the treats are clearly labeled and indicate where they were made.

Do not purchase products with unclear origins, those that emit strange odors, or have defects such as damaged packaging or leaked contents. Pay attention to the packaging, which should clearly indicate the contents and the expiry date.
The packaging must clearly list out the product name, weight, ingredients, manufacturer, and the country of origin. In addition, parents should keep an eye out for common allergens.

Commercially packaged foods containing any of the 11 common allergens must carry a warning label on the container and packaging.
Common allergens such as mango, cow’s milk, goat milk, sesame, and nuts must be clearly labeled. In addition, a nutritionists warns that although Halloween happens just once a year, it’s still best not to binge on sweets.

If we assume that children aged 4 to 6 should consume about 1,800 calories daily, the recommended amount of added sugar should not exceed 180 calories, which is roughly equivalent to 9 sugar cubes.
Consuming too much candy can lead to tooth decay, developmental issues, and weight gain. Additionally, it’s important to avoid purchasing unverified, substandard food products online to prevent potential health risks.

萬聖節即將來臨,小朋友們已經準備好穿上各種裝扮,開始一場場「不給糖就搗蛋」的活動。不過食藥署提醒,家長們為孩子準備糖果前,要注意食品標示有無完整,才能讓自家寶貝玩得開心,吃得安心。
家長們出任務,得幫孩子們把萬聖節派對要用的糖果餅乾,事先準備好。
但爸媽們得注意,糖果包裝的標示、來源,清不清楚。

“不要購買來路不明,容易散發出異味,或者是外觀異常,像是外觀有破損,或是內容物有外漏等等的產品,注意產品外包裝,須明確的標示內容物的名稱、有效日期”
包含品名、重量、添加物名稱、完整的製造商和產地來源等等,都得在外包裝上一一標示,常見"過敏原"也不能忽視。

“如果市售的包裝食品,它含有可能會對這些特殊過敏體質,導致他有過敏反應的,這些11項的內容物的話,必須在容器和外包裝上面,要去做顯著警語”
像是芒果、牛奶、羊奶、芝麻、堅果類等常見過敏原,一定要標示出來,營養科博士也提醒,雖然是萬聖節一年一度,還是不建議吃太多糖。

糖果吃太多,容易引起蛀牙、發育不良、體重增加,另外提醒不要在網路上購買來路不明的不合格食品,以免身體吃出健康紅燈。
