Taiwan flexes AI strengths at electronics exhibition

Taiwan’s AI sector is gaining global attention. Recently, TSMC was reported by foreign media to be under investigation by the US for allegedly producing AI and smartphone chips for China’s Huawei. In response, TSMC issued a statement clarifying that it is not under investigation and that all operations are legal. Additionally, the International Electronics Show is taking place over three days at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. The event which is known as “TAITRONICS” features national teams showcasing their capabilities, aiming for an annual market value of NT$2.35 trillion.

Not only during National Day and the Penghu Fireworks Festival can you see impressive drone displays; drones hanging in the air also attract international manufacturers to the exhibition venue.

The three-day International Electronics Show has kicked off, featuring over 300 exhibitors, 40% bigger than last year. Taiwan’s defense industry is gaining global attention. Also gaining international attention is TSMC, which was reported by foreign media to be producing AI chips for China’s Huawei.

Several foreign media outlets reported that TSMC informed the US about a particular chip found in Huawei products, which led to a 1.72% drop in TSMC’s ADR price. Reports also suggested that TSMC might be under investigation by the US, but TSMC quickly issued a statement clarifying that it completely stopped supplying Huawei in September 2020 and is not under investigation. Minister of Economic Affairs Kuo Jyh-huei spoke on the issue at the tech expo.

TSMC emphasized that it will take action as soon as any suspicious situations are identified to ensure compliance with legal regulations. It added it would defend the reputation of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry through concrete actions.

台灣AI護國群山備受全球關注!台積電日前遭外媒爆料，疑似為中國華為生產AI和智慧手機晶片，遭美國調查。對此，台積電發聲明澄清，並沒有被調查，一切合法。另外，在台北南港展覽館，為期三天的國際電子產業科技展，盛大登場，國家隊們各個瞄準每年2.35兆的產值，大秀肌肉。

不只國慶，澎湖花火節，都能看到無人機群飛秀，高掛在空中的無人機，擺在展場上，吸引國際廠商前來。

不只一家外媒爆出，台積電向美國通報，其中一款晶片，被發現出現在華為產品中，消息一出，引發台積電ADR股價下跌1.72%。外媒還說，台積電疑似被美國調查，但台積電火速發聲明澄清，強調從2020年9月以來，早就完全停止對華為供貨，也根本沒有被調查。經濟部長郭智輝出席活動，也嚴肅面對這個問題。

Defense ministry watches closely Liaoning crosses Taiwan Strait

The Liaoning aircraft carrier, which participated in China’s Joint Sword-2024B military exercises around Taiwan last week, was detected again in the Taiwan Strait. The Liaoning traveled through the Taiwan Strait from south to north Tuesday night, coinciding with the completion of live-fire exercises around China’s Niushan Island. Defense Minister Wellington Koo pointed out that Taiwan’s military is closely monitoring the movements of the Liaoning. The Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s Liaoning aircraft carrier was spotted in the Taiwan Strait late on Tuesday, moving from south to north. The timing is particularly sensitive as it occurred shortly after the PLE concluded a live-fire exercise at Niushan Island.

After participating in the Joint Sword exercises, all movements of the Liaoning are being closely monitored using joint intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance methods.

However, with China’s recent military exercises encircling Taiwan, there are concerns about whether they are practicing a blockade of the Taiwan Strait. Observers have raised concerns about Taiwan’s ability to respond if such a situation were to occur.

The maritime transport value in the Taiwan Strait accounts for about one-fifth of global transport value, reaching US$2.45 trillion. If China were to actually carry out a blockade as defined by international law, the impact would be extremely severe, and the international community would not be able to stand by and do nothing.

According to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture, domestic stockpiles of public rice are sufficient for at least seven months. And Taiwan is self-sufficient on vegetables year-round. Meanwhile meat supplies can last at least a year. As for frozen seafood and canned goods , there is a 2.6-month stock. The Ministry of Economic Affairs also has a contingency plan for energy.

If the three natural gas terminals are completed, we should have a legal storage capacity of more than 14 days.

A National Security Bureau report indicates that the PLA’s cyber units are also targeting Taiwan’s critical infrastructure. Wellington Koo confirmed that these attacks occur daily, and measures will be taken to further enhance cybersecurity.

Testing organization sets up HQ in New Taipei

One of the world’s largest testing organizations has set up headquarters in Taiwan, amid Taiwan’s growing importance as a global electronic parts supplier. The office costs NT$1 billion and is located in New Taipei’s Linkou District. The company also operates 36 labs, which can carry out tests on anything ranging from electric vehicles to artificial intelligence servers.

Kicking off the ceremony is a dragon with LED lights, symbolizing the Taiwan’s supply chains, which offer irreplaceable services to the world. The world’s largest independent, non-listed, expert organization in the testing, inspection and certification sector has opened a NT$1 billion Taiwan head office in Linkou, New Taipei.

Hsinchu prepares tricks and treats for Halloween Parade this Saturday

Hsinchu is preparing tricks and treats for its annual Halloween celebration. A launch event featured a glimpse of the fun on offer at the Halloween parade this Saturday. There’ll be a Trick or Treat event, as well as lots of fancy dress to admire, or be horrified by. Theater performers will be on hand to get kids’ imaginations flowing. And a collab with PuiPuiMolcar will see a variety of events kicking off in the city, as well as a therapeutic exhibition based on the beloved cartoon series.

Hsinchu City held this “Now Go Halloween Party” with the support of acting mayor Chiu Chen-yuan, the promote the grand Halloween Parade that’s coming up on Saturday, October 26.

At the event today we had appearances from the Little Mermaid and Nezuko Kamado. And I’m sure there’ll be even more unmissable costumes to see on Saturday night. Along with various top officials, we’ll all be in costume too.

Apart from Halloween celebrations, Hsinchu has also launched a new collaboration with PuiPuiMolcar, a popular cartoon. They’re holding a whole series of events with lots of freebies for visitors, as well as a heartwarming exhibition.

The PuiPuiMolcar team and installation artists have set up lots of photo-worthy spots all around us. They’ve also brought along limited-edition capsule toys. So kids can come and take a great photo and then collect a toy.

But it’s not all about the freebies. The parade will feature entertainment from Wahaha Team and Hyper Kids Theater. Children can take part in a meet-the-performers event as well as the parade, in a spectacular streetside festival.

More than 10 establishments are taking part in our Trick or Treat event, and they’ll be giving children candy. We’re warmly welcoming more establishments and partners in the commercial district to join in the event too.

Taoyuan Anime Road Run Carnival to kick off on November 2

Taoyuan Anime Road Run Carnival will kick off on Nov. 2. The event will comprise a fun run, as well as a temporary theme park with interactive games. And it’s all held in conjunction with a traditional fish banquet. Last year, the event’s theme was Naruto, and this year Naruto will star alongside Spy × Family characters. Taoyuan officials hope that tourism in the Daxi, Longtan and Shihmen area will get a boost from the event.

A band plays a classic anime theme song onstage in full anime costume. This was the launch event for Taoyuan Anime Road Run Carnival which kicks off on Nov. 2.

There are so many anime events across Taiwan. This is the first double-branded event in history. Last year we held the Naruto Road Run, and this year it’s Naruto but also the beloved Spy × Family, so it’s two brands.

Taoyuan City is hoping to attract tourists of all ages. There’ll be huge backdrops where you can take photos, as well as fun games and, of course, the road run.

We’re using the anime brands to rope in two groups of people who, perhaps, don’t always like to exercise. Firstly, we hope that young and old who are not regular runners will be able to enjoy the beauty of Daxi, Longtan and Shihmen through this event. Secondly, we are also encouraging people who may not have a regular exercise habit to get out into the outdoors.

Su Chun-pin, the deputy mayor of Taoyuan, remembers seeing grandparents with grandkids at the run last year, a touching sight. This year, after runners have worked up an appetite on the track, there will also be delicious eats on offer.

These fresh fish dishes are part of a grand fresh fish banquet, the first to be held in the Daxi-Longtan-Shihmen region for 14 years. Several chefs from well-established local eateries near Shihmen reservoir are taking part, promoting their private wedding catering menus.

Shihmen Fresh Fish Banquet used to be Taoyuan’s top claim to fame, but in recent years such events have been held less often. We really hope that we can recover the former glory of that, the pride in that.

Taoyuan Anime Road Run Carnival will be integrated with the fresh fish banquet. The triple threat of the run, anime theme and culinary delights are sure to bring an unprecedented carnival atmosphere to the region.
