A celebratory hand gesture by the captain of Team Taiwan at the Premier12 has given rise to much speculation online. After hitting a decisive three-run homer against Japan on Sunday, Chen Chieh-hsien celebrated by creating a frame with his hands on his chest. So what does it mean? Let’s hear from a lawmaker.

When Chen Chieh-hsien hit the homer and he was running from the third base to the home plate, he made this gesture. Do you know what it means? It means Taiwan!
It turns out the hand frame is a reference to the jersey that teammate Pan Chieh-kai wore to a press conference after an earlier victory against the US. The shirt read “Taiwan” front and center, and to make the reference clear, a netizen edited a picture of the winning moment for all to celebrate. Another hand gesture popular at the tournament was a triangle made with both hands, borrowed from Texas hold ’em and meant “all in.” Yet another symbol were 6-sided dice with sixes on all faces, symbolizing certain success.
