
The Asia branch of the International Albert Schweitzer Foundation has conferred the Neck Cross award upon Shih Hung-sen, a Taiwanese businessman living in Malawi. In recent years, Shih actively raised funds to help dig 18 wells in water-scarce villages in the southeastern African country, so that local villagers could have access to clean water. I am honored to receive the Albert Schweitzer Award for contributions to humanity. I feel a great responsibility. It’s good to be recognized for spreading love from Taiwan in Malawi. After the wells were dug, the village chiefs thanked Taiwan for helping them escape the threat of cholera.
The International Albert Schweitzer Foundation gives out awards every year to recognize outstanding individuals in various fields. Besides Shih, it also gave a lifetime medical achievement award to Dr. Tu Yuan-kun of E-Da hospital, and the Arts and Science achievement award went to sculptor Wang Hsiu-chi.

國際史懷哲基金會每年頒發榮譽獎項,今年除了施鴻森之外,終身醫學成就獎,頒給義大醫院院長杜元坤,藝術與科學獎章由雕刻藝術家王秀杞獲得,感念各領域代表對社會的貢獻。
