International restaurants vie for exotic cuisine market in Taiwan

The largest restaurant brand in Japan’s Kansai region has staked a claim on Taiwan’s market, aiming to open 15 locations here within five years. A local brand serving Southeast Asian food is also looking to capitalize on Taiwanese consumers’ preference for exotic and creative cuisine.

Evenly coated in oil, this tender pork is piled high into a mountain of spareribs. With added relish and homemade sauce, fired to perfection, its aroma fills the room in a feast for all senses. But that’s not the only enticing dish.

Slices of fresh fish steep in a milky white sauce. The soup is packed with ingredients and stewed with coconut milk, combining sauerkraut fish with Thai cuisine for a unique take on a classic. This table full of Southeast Asian dishes are the new offerings of a famous Taiwanese restaurant brand, seeking to capitalize on interest in global cuisine.

We hope to cultivate a younger, more thoughtful and unique set of restaurants. So we chose Southeast Asian cuisine for developing our new brand. We hope that annual turnover can reach around NT$80 to NT$90 million.

After cooking on a flat grill and in an oven, a patty is transferred into a charcoal grill to lock in the smoky flavor. The Kansai region’s largest restaurant brand is looking to enter the Taiwanese market, with plans to open 15 locations in five years.

Faced with enormous business opportunities as well as a strong New Taiwan dollar, restaurant brands are competing fiercely for a share of the lucrative Taiwanese market.

異國料理初夏熱戰 我國餐飲品牌.日式集團"插旗南港"

有號稱日本關西最大的和食集團,來台灣插旗,還預計5年內要在台灣開15間分店。另外台灣本土餐飲業也加碼推出南洋料理,瞄準台灣內需消費,用異國料理比菜色、拚創意。

油花均勻、肉質軟嫩的豬肋排,堆疊成一座「小排骨山」,撒上調味料、淋上獨門醬汁後點火,頓時香氣四溢,視覺、味覺雙重享受。還有另一道也很吸睛。

新鮮魚片浸泡在乳白色的醬汁裡頭,湯頭大有來頭,加入椰漿燉煮,融合酸菜魚以及泰式料理,碰撞出新的火花,這一大桌滿滿的南洋料理,全都出自老字號台灣餐飲業者,推出新品牌,搶攻台灣異國料理市場。

"我們也是想要培養一些比較年輕,比較有想法或一些比較不同的餐飲團隊,所以我們選用了南洋料理這個方向來做品牌、新的品牌的一個發展。我是希望年度可以大概差不多,營業額落在大概八千到九千萬。"

肉排放在煎台上煎,進烤箱後再用炭火鎖住香氣,號稱日本關西最大和食集團,也來台灣插旗,甚至宣布5年內要展店15家搶攻台灣商機。

"發現越來越多新店會開,然後每次新店開的時候,就會想要去嘗試一下這樣。每次去新店的時候,它那個人潮都非常的多,就是大家都對這個接受度都很高。"

面對內需市場的龐大商機,在台幣狂升的時候,異國料理和進口品牌大比拚,要讓消費者把錢留在台灣。
