Chou’s Shrimp Rolls, a five decade establishment with 58 locations in Taiwan, found itself in hot water! Video footage recently published online shows a server at the Anping flagship in Tainan, placing leftover fried tofu from a previous customer back into a pot on the stove, meaning the leftover could be served to other unsuspecting customers. On Wednesday the city’s public health officials inspected the restaurant, and stated that Chou’s Shrimp Rolls could be fined up to NT$200 million if the reported incident was found to be true.
In the video, a server can be seen grabbing a white bowl containing the leftover fried tofu, then walking over to the stove. Then, she quickly poured the contents back into the stew. The customer who filmed this said they were shocked to witness this, as they were sure the bowl was from a customer at the table next to them. A representative for Chou’s Shrimp Rolls apologized for the incident, and stated that the company does not ask employees to recycle leftovers, and that the employee in question had been dismissed. The restaurant also said it may seek legal action against the fired server.
