A Taiwanese YouTuber was beaten black and blue in South Korea, after rejecting a man that had tried to flirt with her. After the stranger struck her multiple times, she called the police for help, but apparently they did not provide any assistance. She said they told her incidents like that were common in South Korea. The incident has sparked much discussion online.

He slapped me and I said “How dare you!” I didn’t want my friend or me to get assaulted. Then he struck me again. After the police took my information, they told me that incidents like that are common in South Korea. They told me to just go home and rest and said “You can go now.” So what’s the point of getting the police involved? All they did was check my passport number. They didn’t even check the security cameras. And that’s all they did.
But Liu didn’t give up after the negative experience with the police. She says she will go to the hospital for a medical check up and take the matter to law enforcement again. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it will provide her with all the necessary assistance.
