
Seven days after the death of Ms. Sun, the 34-year-old EVA Air flight attendant who died after working under illness, the airline company has finally come out to make a public apology. However, the flight attendants union says the company was still being dishonest and has yet to respond to them internally. They also announce that they’ll be holding another protest in November, during the annual EVA Air Marathon.

The vice president of EVA Air’s cabin crew division chokes back tears when reading his apology. He praises Ms. Sun for her diligence while working at the company. But what about the in-flight supervisor, who allegedly did not report Ms. Sun’s condition when she fell ill on duty?

It’s true, that was flawed. We’re currently investigating it.
However, flight attendants are not just dissatisfied with the in-flight manager. They say the real issue is the company’s retaliatory shift scheduling if one were to take too many days off. Of course, the text message asking the deceased flight attendant to justify leave did not go unnoticed.

We’re really sorry. It was a flaw in our internal admin. Our standard of procedure is to have the supplementary documents ready before reporting for the next duty, but there’s no penalty for failed or late submission.

It’s been seven days now. We still haven’t received any written apology or explanation within the company. The company also still doesn’t have any plans to improve their policy. They also lied publicly in saying that there’s no penalty should we fail to submit proof justifying leave.
The flight attendants union also showed an internal document proving that employees do get penalized if they fail to justify leave. What’s more, over the past six years, EVA Air has 24 fining records of illegal overtime work with the Ministry of Labor.

As for the overtime cases, it’s mostly because of circumstances beyond the company’s control or expectation. For example, there was a case in 2023 when we went 2 minutes overtime because of mechanical issues on a flight to Tokyo, and we still got fined.

Why would you need to hold a press conference to justify yourself and say that you’ve done so much, and that you shouldn’t have gotten fined for being overtime by two minutes? Can you not have more respect for human lives?
The union is staging a protest and offering flowers to Ms. Sun outside the EVA Air headquarters while the press conference is being held inside. The union also announces that they’ll hold another protest in November, during the EVA Air Marathon.

長榮航空一名34歲的孫姓空服員,日前執勤過程中身體不舒服,回台後不幸病逝,而長榮在空服員告別式當天,竟然還傳訊催促請假證明,引發社會眾怒,對此,長榮航空舉行記者會,由總經理孫嘉明,帶領高層鞠躬道歉。
“向孫小姐的家屬及社會大眾,表達我們最深的歉意”
總經理率一級主管一字排開鞠躬道歉,空服員抱病出勤後離世,事隔7天,長榮航空終於出面了。

副總講到哽咽,稱讚死去空服員認真敬業,但座艙長明知組員身體不舒服,有沒有向上呈報?

“的確是有瑕疵,我們已經進行在調查當中。”
不只通報出問題,工會更痛批排班制度,讓組員不敢請病假,最可笑的是空服員過世後,還收到同事催繳請假證明。

“真的是很抱歉,確實是內部行政疏失。我們一般催繳的SOP,就是在次一個勤務以前繳交。(交不出來)不會有什麼懲罰。”

“事情已經過了七天了,到現在我們沒有任何收到內部的道歉跟說明,公司對於這個制度,也完全沒有任何的改善方案,還公然說謊,說請假如果沒有交證明的話,沒有懲處。”
工會還曬出證明,被催繳請假證明會記缺點,轟高層避重就輕,尤其,關於違規超時,長榮航空6年已被處分24次。

“超時案子上來講的話,較多的情形是,航空公司是無法控制,或是事先預期。我們曾經在2023年,東京航班因機械故障超時兩分鐘,一樣照罰。”

“你還要開一個記者會,來幫自己說話,說你們已經做了很多,你們超時兩分鐘不應該被罰,你們就不能夠對生命有更多的尊重嗎?”
就在長榮航空開記者會的同時,工會帶著花束在場外悼念,11月的長榮馬拉松還會再發動抗議。
