And here’s a reminder why you should not feed wild animals. A Reeve’s muntjac was recently spotted in the mountains of Miaoli with a cut plastic bottle stuck on its head. Authorities believe it was a feed container put in the wilderness by a person with good intentions. Sadly, the muntjac ran away and was later found dead in a ditch, still with the bottle on its head.
An adult female muntjac was spotted with its head stuck in a plastic bottle, struggling to set itself free. As much as people tried to help her, she ran way too fast for humans. By the time county officials arrived, the muntjac was dead in a drainage ditch, likely due to extreme stress.

Muntjacs are very timid. In this case, the muntjac panicked and ran around frantically after the bottle got stuck on its head. It likely caused severe stress, which we think was the cause of death.
The muntjac was spotted along County Highway 126 in Miaoli, near the border between Touwu and Shitan. There were many discarded plastic bottles and bags strewn in the grass and drainage ditches.
Officials believe a well-intended person may have cut open the bottle to fill it with food and water for the wild animals. The muntjac likely got the bottle stuck to its snout when trying to reach the food, leading to its tragic end.

We urge the public not to feed wild animals. Any bottles taken to the mountains should be brought back, to prevent causing harm to wildlife.
Officials urge visitors to not litter, and to not feed wild animals. Even if you mean well, it could result in a tragic ending, such as in this sad story.

有民眾行經苗栗縣道126線，頭屋、獅潭交界處，發現有一隻山羌，被寶特瓶套住口鼻，苗栗縣府獲報前往救援，不過山羌已經倒臥在水溝死亡多時，縣府研判可能有人想餵食野生動物，卻釀成悲劇。
成年母山羌口鼻被寶特瓶套住，幾乎看不到牠的臉，看起來相當無助，目擊民眾雖然想上前幫忙，不過山羌實在跑得太快，根本無法救援。苗栗縣府接獲通報前往現場，不過山羌已經倒臥水溝，疑似緊迫慘死。

“因為山羌這個動物本身比較膽小。這次套到寶特瓶之後，導致牠緊張亂竄亂撞，導致緊迫而造成死亡，這是我們研判的最主要致死的因素。”
山羌被發現的地點，在苗栗縣道126線，頭屋、獅潭交界處，重回現場，草叢和水溝裡，隨處可見被丟棄的寶特瓶和塑膠袋。
苗栗縣府研判，可能是善心人士，像這樣將寶特瓶切開當做容器，在裡頭裝水或是食物，方便餵食野生動物，卻導致山羌誤食，口鼻被套住無法掙脫，不幸身亡。

“民眾最好不要餵食野生動物，帶過去山區的寶特瓶，我們希望都是要清除帶走，避免造成我們野生動物的危害。”
苗栗縣府呼籲，民眾前往山區，不要隨意丟棄垃圾，也別擅自餵食野生動物，免得像這回，原本出自一片好意，最後卻奪走一條無辜性命，適得其反。
