Fire dancer left with burns on face during mid-show mishap

2026-01-13

A terrifying moment during a fire dance left audiences shaken at the Kinmen Island Life Festival on Sunday. A breathtaking fire performance suddenly turned dangerous when the wind shifted and blew flames back into a performer’s face. The fire dancer was left with second-degree facial burns and was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Double-ended fire staffs are spun around for a spectacular performance. The two performers get ready for the grand finale. But then…

They look to the skies and start breathing out huge flames. But something’s going terribly wrong. On the right, the dancer’s face is on fire, and it’s not going out. He cries out in pain and falls on his knees, as staff rushes to help.

A fire dance troupe was performing on the evening of Jan. 11, when a sudden change in wind speeds during the final segment of the show resulted in one performer getting injured.

The performance was part of the Kinmen Island Life Festival, and it was cut short after winds picked up causing the flames to blow back on the performer’s face. The stunt ended in disaster, injuring the performer, who was immediately taken to hospital.

We helped the performer off the stage and took him to hospital for medical care. After an initial assessment, doctors determined that the performer had sustained second-degree burns on his face. He’s fully conscious and with stable vital signs. All necessary medical procedures are complete.

The Kinmen County Government says it will require event organizers to conduct a thorough review of performance procedures and materials in the future. While the stunts are impressive, when it comes to risky moves, safety should come first.
