
A fresh fruit juice stall at the Taitung Tourism Night Market has such delicious juice that it’s gained a large following. The proprietor, Lo Yung-feng, has even won awards. Lo has established long-term relationships with local farmers that enable him to find the highest quality fruit. What’s less well known is that Lo was once a prison instructor and is devoted to promoting good health. Let’s meet Lo.
First the pineapple is washed with water.
Then the fruit is chopped and sliced on the spot. The proprietor is working quickly, aiming to maintain the freshness of the fruit.
A dragon fruit is added and there’s the same process. Even its weight must be calculated precisely.
It’s all put in a blender and ice cubes are added. Pineapple and dragon fruit juice, it’s fresh and delicious.
Whether it’s papaya, watermelon or pineapple, cups of fresh fruit are displayed in front of the stall, and many people are queuing up. This fresh juice stall is quite famous in Taitung Tourism Night Market because of its freshly extracted fruit juice and hygienic conditions.

When I was younger, I was working a regular job and didn’t have much to do in the evenings, so I started doing a side business at the night market. I started with bubble tea but in recent years I’ve come to realize that health is more important than anything else. So I thought I’d sell healthy fresh fruit juice.
The proprietor was originally a rehabilitation instructor who taught inmates skills in prison. After clocking off from work, he and his wife moonlighted at the night market selling cups of boba. He retired ten years ago and a plasticizer scandal led him to believe that health is more important than anything else. This prompted Lo Yung-feng to switch from selling bubble tea to selling healthy fruit juice.

The idea of eating seasonal, local produce is to encourage consumers to enjoy the
ingredients of each region they visit—they are the freshest and most delicious.
Eating seasonal fruits is the freshest and tastiest way to enjoy them, but turning them into fruit juice for sale is not something anyone can do. Lo puts in a lot of effort to produce the highest quality juice.

His years of accumulated experience have enabled him to find local fruit farmers with high-quality produce and he’s cooperated with them for the long-term. His high standards for the production process have also earned him many awards.
With cups in their hands, people are happily drinking. This retired prison instructor may be busy, but he is also living a fulfilling life.

台東觀光夜市有一家鮮果汁攤,老闆長期和在地小農合作,選購優質水果,再打成果汁,因為重視品質,好喝到累積不少人氣,甚至還奪下獎項,但不為人知的是,老闆原本是一位在監獄教導收容人一技之長的教化師,退休後,加上塑化劑風波,才開始賣起健康果汁,來聽聽他的故事。

再搭配個火龍果,同樣流程,連重量都要算得精準。
放進果汁機,加入冰塊,鳳梨火龍果,新鮮又好喝。
無論是木瓜,還是西瓜鳳梨,一杯杯新鮮水果,就擺在攤位前,不少民眾排隊等著買果汁,這家鮮果汁攤,因為新鮮現榨果汁又衛生,在台東觀光夜市擁有不少名氣。

“年輕那時候在上班,晚上也沒有什麼事,不然來兼個副業做夜市,先從泡沫紅茶開始做,後來這幾年開始覺得健康比什麼都還重要,所以想說賣這種健康鮮果汁”
老闆原本是一名在監獄裡教導收容人一技之長的教化師,下班後兼差,陪太太在夜市賣手搖飲,10年前退休,遇到塑化劑風波,一個"健康比什麼都重要"的念頭,讓羅永豐從泡沫紅茶轉賣健康果汁。

“在當地吃當季,這個理念就是希望消費者,到達哪一個地區,就吃當地的食材,是最新鮮最好吃的”
吃當令水果,最鮮最好吃,但要打成果汁,不是隨便賣一賣,為了端出品質最優的果汁,羅永豐可是下了不少功夫。

多年累積的經驗,讓他找到品質優的當地果農,長期配合,也因為對製作過程相當要求,奪下不少獎項。
人手一杯,民眾喝得開心,監獄教化師的退休生活,雖然忙碌,卻也過得充實。
