Three people have been detained and held incommunicado in relation to a spycam scandal at Airlee, a popular cosmetic clinic chain in Taiwan. Among them is the chair of the company, Chang Ju-shan, who claimed that the cameras had been installed to protect the rights and interests of staff and clients. The cams, which were hidden inside fake smoke detectors in several branches, were equipped with remote monitoring and remote download capabilities. At the detention hearing, it was concluded that Chang and the other two suspects posed flight risks, and could collude with accomplices and destroy or alter evidence. As such they are now being held in custody.
The explosive scandal has triggered a wave of refund requests across the country. But some consumers have found a clause in the refund application form that supposedly would waive their right to pursue civil and criminal claims. A lawyer on social media is offering advice on the matter. She urged consumers to cross out the problematic clauses from the form and put a signature next to them in order to preserve the right to take the matter to court after getting the money back.
