Nvidia introduces AI chip RTX Spark in collab with MediaTek
Nvidia on Tuesday morning held a Q&A session for media, industry analysts and creators, during which CEO Jensen Huang introduced the RTX Spark, an AI chip for PCs developed with MediaTek. At the event, Huang also praised Taiwan’s tech manufacturing and said that investing in Taiwan is not counterintuitive to supply chain diversification and derisking, as it’s only natural for businesses to partner with top players, such as Taiwan’s tech manufacturers.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang greets reporters of more than 300 local and international outlets. He opens the session with a shoutout to the fruit lady at Tonghua Night Market, before he’s joined onstage by MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai, whose company had jointly developed the RTX Spark, an AI chip for PCs.
Rick Tsai
MediaTek CEO
A lot of work, but I’m so excited, really energized. That boy, PC has a new life, it seems. Absolutely the right architecture for agentic AI.
Jensen Huang
Nvidia CEO
We’ve been working on it for almost two years now. So, how has the journey been for you? Are we still friends?
- Always, for…
I don’t know… 30-something years?
- Just kidding.
Nvidia’s new chip will go to next-generation Microsoft PCs. Meanwhile, Huang reemphasized that Nvidia’s Vera CPU is build for AI agents, and is especially suited for agentic AI thanks to its fast processing speed. He was asked if the introduction of Vera will take away from the market share of competitors, such as AMD.
Jensen Huang
Nvidia CEO
We’re not trying to take anything from anybody else. We’re not trying to take any share, because they’re doing a fine job, because we want to address a future market that doesn’t exist today. Vera will be even more popular than Nvidia GPUs.
Huang is confident that Nvidia’s new products will meet future demand worldwide. He was then asked by a BBC reporter what the company makes of investing in Taiwan’s 150-company-strong ecosystem in the face of geopolitical risks. Here’s what he said.
Jensen Huang
Nvidia CEO
Because Taiwan is investing in the ecosystem, the manufacturing in the United States. It doesn’t change the fact that Taiwan is incredible at manufacturing. You should partner with people who are doing it the best in the world.
Huang said that Taiwan’s leading companies, including TSMC, Amkor, SPIL, Wistron and Hon Hai have been expanding in the US to improve supply chain resilience. He added that investing in Taiwan is not counterintuitive to supply chain diversification. He praised Taiwan’s tech manufacturing, of which Nvidia has become one of the biggest clients. Nvidia also plans to bring the number of local hires to 4,000 upon the completion of its Taipei headquarters.
