Affordable sushi shop move to self-built 7-story building

2026-06-05

A popular old-school eatery with rock-bottom prices and round-the clock service is about to go through a huge upgrade. The beloved “A-po Sushi” 阿婆壽司joint in New Taipei’s Yingge District has been operating for more than 40 years, selling different kinds of sushi rolls and oden dishes. Before the end of the month, its humble premises are set to get a massive revamp, as the business is moving to an enormous self-built 7-story building in the area, which experts estimate to have cost NT$130 million.

And perhaps most interestingly, none of the five co-owners of the new building have any record of taking out a loan to buy the property. All of them are related to the family that runs the restaurant. According to the operators, floors 1 to 3 will be dedicated to the restaurant, floors 4 to 6 will be offices, and the floor 7 will be residential.
