Retiree reclaims lost envelope with NT$30,000 after seven months

At the beginning of the year, a retired military instructor in Chiayi’s Minxiong Township accidentally left an envelope with NT$30,000 in a duck soup restaurant. The owner handed the money over to the police, but received it back six months later after no one came to claim it. But by chance, the owner was able to find the person, and could finally return the money. Grateful for the gesture, the man donated a portion of the money to charity in the shop owner’s name to pay forward her act of kindness.

Hsu Kun-cheng, a retired military instructor from Sieh Chih Vocational High School in Minxiong Township, rushed back to this duck soup restaurant to meet the kind-hearted owner.

Back in January, he left this exact envelope at the restaurant. As soon as she discovered it had NT$30,000 inside, she knew the owner must be frantic to get it back.

- I’m so glad you came back for it! Knowing you couldn’t find it made me anxious for you.

Although the envelope had a name on it, the owner didn’t know him at all. She turned it into the police station, but since it wasn’t claimed for six months, she got it back. By law, the money now belonged to the store. But the owner had no intention of keeping it for herself. She kept searching for the owner, and resolved to donate it if she couldn’t find him.

I figured the person who lost it would be frantic to get it back and go to the police station. But he never went there to find it.

After hearing the news, Hsu Kun-cheng went in person to retrieve the envelope, with a plan to pass on the owner’s kindness.

- If you couldn’t find it, you planned to donate the money?
- That’s right.
- Right. So I’ll make the donation on your behalf.

Seven months later, the envelope was finally reunited with its owner, with a portion of the cash destined for charity. This heartwarming act of goodwill has since continued to inspire local charities throughout Minxiong Township.

嘉義民雄一位退休教官，年初在鴨肉羹店用餐，不慎遺落了裝有近三萬元的信封，沒想到店家不但交付警方半年後依法取回，還因緣巧合聯繫上失主，讓物歸原主。事後失主也以店家名義捐助公益，傳遞這份善的循環。

民雄協志工商退休教官徐堃城，接到通知趕忙回來鴨肉羹店，見見這位善心的老闆娘。

就是這個信封，在一月份時被發現遺落在店裡，老闆娘一看裡頭有近三萬塊現金，直覺失主肯定很著急。

-你回來拿我很高興，你找不到我都替你心慌。

信封上雖然有名字，無奈老闆娘根本不認識他，信封被送到警局，這一放公告了六個月沒人認領，整個信封又被交回給老闆娘。按理說這筆錢，已經算是店家所有，但老闆娘不但不打算收下來，還持續尋找失主，甚至打算沒找到人，就要把錢捐出去。

“老闆娘在問我，拿著信封，就這個信封告訴我說，這個名字堃城你認不認識?”

“我在想說丟掉的人應該會很著急，會去派出所，結果他都沒有去派出所去找。”

輾轉接到消息的徐堃城，特別登門拜訪來領失物，也打算替老闆娘，傳愛下去，讓善意循環。

-錢找不到主人的話要捐出去嘛。
-是這樣子沒錯啊。
-對啊那我就幫你代捐。

這個丟失了的信封，七個月後終於物歸原主。而裡頭的金錢，也有部分捐助了公益。一個拾金不昧、與人為善的義舉故事，也就此在民雄鄉裡的公益團體間，溫暖的傳遞開來。
