Paraguay calls Taiwan exclusion a stain on United Nations

Paraguay and Taiwan relations are strong as ever. As an ally of Taiwan, the nation has once again spoken up for Taiwan at the UN General Assembly. Paraguay’s president, Santiago Peña, urged member states to consider that the “Taiwan Issue” deserves global attention as the island’s semi-conductor industry impacts the global economy. They reiterated their position to stand with Taiwan. Since Taiwan’s contributions can be seen far and wide, the UN should reconsider including the island as a member.

Paraguay stands, and I say this loud and clear with Taiwan. Not out of expediency, quite the opposite. We stand with Taiwan because of the profound values we share: democracy, the rule of law, human rights, and peace.

President Peña of Paraguay emphasized the importance of Taiwan’s participation in international stages during his speech at the UN General Assembly on Wednesday.

I am referring to the ominous clouds gathering over the Indo-Pacific, particularly over the Taiwan Strait. What happens there is not merely a regional matter.

President Peña emphasized that a conflict across the Taiwan Strait would impact the global economy, since semi-conductors support various industries, defense, and AI. He added that chips are the driving force of the 21st century, and that Paraguay stands with Taiwan. He also called out the United Nations for excluding Taiwan.

Taiwan has concrete contributions to make to peace, development, and human rights. Excluding it doesn’t serve to strengthen the system, it deprives the system of capacities that could benefit us all. And it is a stain on the United Nations.

As the Trump-Xi summit kicks off, several US lawmakers issued a statement urging Trump to back Taiwan during his talks with President Xi.

Today, as Trump wines and dines President Xi at The White House. He has a choice to make, once again bend the knee to the CCP or stand up to Xi.

The joint statement implored Trump to limit China’s access to advanced chips and equipment, not allowing him to have the upper hand. Simultaneously, New Zealand has come out with a report suggesting that China is the largest source of state-backed cyber attacks in the country.

我國友邦巴拉圭，再度為台灣發聲。巴拉圭總統"潘尼亞"，今天在聯合國大會演說時，強調台海議題不是區域、而是全球性議題，台灣晶片影響全球經濟。他重申，巴拉圭在這個議題不會中立，會堅定跟台灣站在一起；台灣能對國際社會做出實質貢獻，聯合國不該排除台灣。

我國友邦、巴拉圭總統潘尼亞，美國時間23號在聯合國大會演說時，花了約3分鐘強調台灣的重要性。

潘尼亞指出，台海的潛在衝突，影響全球經濟、影響支援各項產業、防衛和AI的晶片。晶片是21世紀的動能，巴拉圭在這個議題不會中立，會跟台灣站在一起；潘尼亞也呼籲，聯合國不該將台灣排除在外。

而在川習再度會面前，美國民主黨多位議員，也發表聯合聲明，要求美國總統川普堅定挺台。

“今天，當川普在白宮宴請習近平主席時，他必須做出選擇，是再次是向中共卑躬屈膝，還是挺身對抗習近平”

聲明強調，川普必須切斷中國獲取先進晶片和設備的途徑，不能讓習近平離開時，比來訪時更強大；否則那不是外交，而是軟弱。幾乎同時間，紐西蘭發布報告，指出中國已成為紐西蘭最大的網路攻擊活動來源。
