Pomelo peel turned into household cleaner

In addition to making cute, festive hats over the Mid-Autumn Festival, pomelo peels have another use: cleaning. They contain limonene, a compound that can dissolve grease and grime on tough surfaces. Making a cleaning product from the peel is not only economical and resourceful, but it’s powerful enough to remove stubborn grease, even in the microwave.

Do you have any more pomelos at home? After eating them, don’t be in a rush to throw out the peel. It contains limonene, which has many uses.
After eating the pomelo, remove the white pith, but keep the peel, because it has limonene: an excellent cleaner.

We usually don’t recommend using an old pomelo. It’s better to use a fresh one.
Cut up the peel, put it in a jar and submerge it in alcohol, then cover it and leave it in a cool, dark place for a week. This DIY cleaning liquid is great for getting grease off microwaves, stoves, and pots.

We usually recommend using it on surfaces that don’t come into contact with food, like the hood of a stove or the outside of pots. I wouldn’t recommend using it to wash dishes. It can save you at least NT$1,000 a year.
It can also help clean the microwave. Put pomelo peel in a bowl of water and put it in the microwave for one minute. Then let the steam sit for a few minutes to soften the grime in the microwave.

When it’s microwaved, it will boil, so there will be steam. The steam will slowly soften any grime and bacteria in the microwave.
Remember to throw pomelo peel away with food waste, except in Keelung, Miaoli, and Hsinchu City, which classify the peel as trash. But before throwing it away, maximize its value by using it as a cleaner, saving money and leaving the home with a fresh citrus scent.

你最近有吃文旦柚嗎? 有家事達人分享吃完果肉，柚子皮成分有檸檬烯精油可以溶解油汙，DIY清潔劑一年可以省上千元。微波爐的難纏油垢，也能用 柚香蒸氣清除，家事達人分享做法，「柚」盡其用！

“家裡是不是還有很多柚子呢?柚子吃完，這柚子皮可千萬別急著丟，因為它的成分有檸檬烯，可以有很多用途。”
柚子果肉吃光，把果皮中間白囊削掉，綠色柚子皮因為含有檸檬烯精油，能溶解油脂。

"我們通常都不會建議說，要那麼老的那個柚，通常它可以挑比較新鮮。"
切一切，倒進酒精，淹過果皮，蓋緊瓶蓋，放在陰涼處等一星期，DIY柚皮萃取液大功告成，再裝進噴罐，烤箱、微波爐，抽油煙機都能擦。

"通常會推薦只用到我們不是食用的地方，比方說排油煙機，或者說鍋子的外表這樣子，那個地方我覺得是可以用，那洗碗不太建議。一年下來至少可以省到一千多塊。"
另一種用途在這裡，柚子皮放進碗裡，加水，微波一分鐘，飄出淡淡柚子香靜置兩三分鐘後，柚香水蒸氣，能軟化污垢。

“在水滾的，再微波它的時候，它等於是在水滾狀態，所以會有蒸氣，那個蒸氣慢慢會把這微波爐，整個的污垢或什麼細菌，會慢慢軟化它的髒污。”
除了基隆新竹市和苗栗，把柚子皮列為一般垃圾，用完的柚子皮可記得要丟到廚餘。一顆柚子價值放大，吃到香甜柚子、還能省錢一舉兩得。
