Scooter driver flies into ditch, tanker almost crushes rider

Two shocking crashes in Yilan have been caught on camera. One of them happened in Jiaoxi, where a scooter driver almost got trapped under the wheels of a turning truck. The other was in Yilan City, where a scooter rider was sent flying into an irrigation ditch filled with water after colliding with a car. He was sent to the hospital with broken bones. The rider was probably unconscious already. The driver got out of the vehicle and went to check on him, and so did the passengers in the front and the back. They all got out to check if he was alright.

There is ongoing road work to install a base for the traffic light, so the road was slightly narrowed. It may have affected visibility or something like that, leading to the collision.

The rider in Jiaoxi fell right next to the truck’s wheels and came dangerously close to being pulled underneath. Fortunately, the tanker driver slammed on the brakes, narrowly avoiding a much worse outcome. The rider was taken to the hospital and, thankfully, suffered only minor scrapes and bruises. Local residents say the intersection is a notorious accident hotspot, with many large trucks passing through every day. They are calling on authorities to improve traffic management and reroute some of the heavy vehicles to reduce the risk of further crashes.
