Comedian hears report on transnational repression

The Legislative Yuan on Thursday held a session about China’s transnational repression. Several government agencies delivered a special report on the issue. Among the people listening in on the presentations was comedian Huang Yi-hao, who has been the target in several repression plots. One legislator from the KMT, Weng Hsiao-ling had an issue with the report, saying it was focusing too narrowly on China, and suggesting there were other forces as well. Let’s hear more.

I was looking forward to hearing Legislator Weng Hsiao-ling name some other foreign hostile forces after her question. But she didn’t. She just left everyone hanging, to figure it out for themselves. I honestly don’t know who else she thinks poses a threat to Taiwan. Maybe she can compile her own list. I didn’t understand some of her remarks, so I turned around to ask the people around me, but from the look on their faces, it was clear that they also didn’t know what she was on about.

Comedian Huang Yi-hao was targeted in a series of attacks after mocking Chinese leader Xi Jinping during a routine. A club he was performing in had paint and feces thrown at it by bad actors. He was also later injured in a pre-arranged car collision where the goal was to leave him with broken arms and legs. The plot was traced to individuals in China who provided funding and instructions. As China’s transnational repression grows increasingly aggressive, the DPP and Executive Yuan have proposed several legislative amendments to strengthen Taiwan’s response. However, all of the proposals have been stalled due to opposition from KMT and TPP lawmakers.

立法院針對中國跨境鎮壓進行專案報告，曾遭中國製造假車禍受傷的喜劇演員黃逸豪，也親自到場旁聽。不過國民黨立委翁曉玲質詢時，質疑政府把境外敵對勢力全指向中國太過片面，這番話讓黃逸豪苦笑反問，對台灣有威脅的境外勢力，除了中國還有誰？

“我其實期待翁曉玲委員，在問完這個問題之後，自己會提出來一些其他的境外勢力，但是他並沒有提出來，他就只是讓大家回去自己想，我也不太知道台灣的境外敵對勢力，到底還有誰，那或者說翁曉玲委員，他自己可以先整理出一份，他自己認為的清單，主要是因為翁委員的發言，就是有一些部分我聽不懂，我轉頭想要跟在場的人確認訊息，但是對方也露出一種，是在講什麼的感覺”

喜劇演員黃逸豪，因在表演中嘲諷中國主席習近平，日前竟接連遭潑漆、製造假車禍，甚至原計畫是要將他斷手斷腳，檢方查出是中國人士出資教唆。因應中國跨國鎮壓，手段越來越激烈，綠營和行政院提出多項修法，但都在藍白立委阻擋下全數卡關。
