Immersive 3D experience of classical Chinese painting will bring river to life

The most famous painting in China is about to hit Taiwan like never before. "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" is to be an immersive experience in Taipei. The Song dynasty painting depicts life in ancient China along the banks of a river. Now, for the first time, the public will get a chance to fly above the scene in a 3D simulation. Some lucky VIPs have had a sneak preview, and said the experience felt extremely real.
A ship passes underneath the famous Hongqiao Bridge. Sailors are busy shouting orders or punting. Vendors on the banks of the river shout and gesticulate to hawk their wares. Previously, National Palace Museum made a moving animation of “Along the River During the Qingming Festival.” And now a different team has created an immersive simulation can give you an even more unusual perspective.
You sit in a flying machine to soar over the ancient city of Bianjing.Crossing the river and Hongqiao Bridge, you enter the bustling market at night.
Immersive experience industry
Right now people are focusing on what we call immersive experiences. We want to launch “Along the River During the Qingming Festival” by the end of the year. We’ll create a 20-meter dome immersive experience, where you can feel like you’re really flying inside. So you can come here to learn while having an awesome time.
The original scroll is one of the most famous classical Chinese paintings. It dates to the 12th century. Painted by Song dynasty artist Zhang Zeduan, it depicts commerce, architecture, transport and daily life scenes from Bianjing, the capital of the Northern Song dynasty. Visitors to the experience can also try on clothes from the era.

We saw some very detailed scenes and characters from Bianjing. And there were some scenes where we fell right in the water! Oh my god, the water came right in – it felt so real!
From ink on paper, to a moving animation, and now a 3D immersion: this painting, perhaps the most famous in all of Chinese history, is getting fresh audiences thanks to the innovations of technology.
"飛進"清明上河圖! 穿越時空鳥瞰北宋街景

大家熟知的名畫《清明上河圖》，展現中國北宋時期的繁華街景，以及市井小民的生活百態，近年來隨著科技發展，畫作不再只是靜態作品，不但有動畫呈現，讓人物動起來；也有3D模擬版本，能立體賞畫；現在還有業者打造沉浸式體驗，民眾像是飛進畫中，穿越時空，鳥瞰汴京城。
一艘大船正要通過虹橋底下，船上的人忙著指揮、忙著撐篙，岸上還許多攤販揮動雙手叫賣。先前故宮結合科技將《清明上河圖》動起來，現在還有業者發揮創意，讓你用另一種視角鳥瞰。
坐上移動座艙，飛入畫作，汴京城彷彿就在腳下，可以飛過河川，穿過虹橋，還能體驗晚上的熱鬧市集。

“現在又講究是所謂沉浸式的體驗，我們就想說在年底的時候，推出這樣的清明上河圖，打造一個20米球幕沉浸式的體驗，能夠讓民眾感覺好像真的飛在裡面，就讓大家來這邊所謂的寓教於樂。”
《清明上河圖》為中國十大傳世名畫之一，由北宋張擇端所繪製，畫出當時商業、建築、交通等生活景象。也有民眾換上北宋時期古華服來體驗。

“看到很細緻的汴京一些場景啊，還有人物啊。我們還有一幕是整個跳到水裡面，哇，那個水整個浸上來，感覺非常真實。”
從靜態觀賞、到動畫展示、甚至3D呈現，現在還有飛越版本。打破固有的展覽方式，透過科技與藝術的結合，翻轉珍貴文物，不斷賦予經典畫作新風貌。
